Waltons First Symphony

Some posters I have read say that Colin Davis recording of Waltons
First Symphony is a stunner!!! I only know Walton's music through his
film work (which is wonderful) - would those here who really know his
symphonic music second that recommendation??? Wagner fan

It's the Previn / LSO recording which usually comes out as the 'top
recommendation' but why not hear one of the performances on You Tube
(though the Davis doesn't seem to be on there) such as this Semyon
Bychkov one (after the wretched ad is over) and see if you like the
work well enough to continue investigating it ...

I particularly enjoy the Ashkenazy Wagner fan. He get's the tempo just
right, revealing the emptiness of all those over-blown gestures to
perfection.

I haven't heard the Davis (so maybe I shouldn't answer here), but I would

not only Previn's first, storied recording of Symphony 1 with the LSO, but
