I seem to recall that most of this was issued by Philips (perhaps not
the Haydn and Mozart symphonies), but the series (Philips: The Early
Years) was not released in the USA. Anyone interested should go to
hmv.co.jp.

However at least one recording; Skalkottas' 10 sketches for strings
Philips S 06208 R, EP, is missing; I have yet to locate a copy.
Best,
Alex
Sorry! *Is* this the same.........
Thanks also for providing the timings as well!

Missing as well is the wonderful recording of Hindemith's The Four
Temperaments with Leon Fleisher.
Same set, but you'll notice MDT asks 27.50 pounds, or $54.62 -- that
drops to 23.40 pounds or $46.48 if they subtract the VAT. But HMV
Japan starts with a cost of 5934 yen, or $49.36, and because of their
current import sale you can actually get it for 4953 yen or $41.20...!
Of course you still have to factor in the postage, but even so, the
Japanese store looks like the better deal. As it happens, I just
placed my first order with HMV Japan, prodded by a poster on another
thread who mentioned their CD of Weber and Mendelssohn overtures with
Ansermet you can't get anywhere else AFAIK, and then when I saw they
had some interesting Paray material (Japanese versions) and a cheapo
of Munchinger's marvelous Petits Riens that even Australian Eloquence
hasn't gotten around to yet -- also his Haffner Serenade which I
already obtained via eBay -- that clinched the deal. You might want to
see if HMV Japan has anything else you want, which might override the
postage issue. In the meantime, I'm going to keep checking back to see
if they come up with the Holberg Suite that was the flip side of
Munchinger's Petits Riens...
I could never find the appropriate place for that recording. And when
I did, Sony (guess who!) wouldn't allow any Sony artist have more than
one volume in the GPE. So Fleisher was only accorded one volume, alas.
Fleisher told me he may be trying to bring out his old monaural
recordings on his current label through licensing. I wish him luck, of
course.
Incidentally, the Hindemith recording was his first official
recording. (His performance at the QE competition has surfaced, of
course, in a lavish box set from Belgium)

Thanks for your price comparisons. I've ordered a couple a CDs from
HMV.jp, which should arrive in a day or two, and am waiting to see if
they're sent together or separately. I think amounts over £19 will be
taxed (and charged £5 for inspection), so it may not be cost-effective
to import the Goldberg. This will be an expensive month, what with
amazon having a massive sale on Universal Master boxes.....

This looks like a Dutch import. It might be
cheaper from Europe.

If you could find someone in The Netherlands to order it for you,
you'd pay ca. € 25 + shipping to your home adress, which probably will
be about € 2,50
