I rather like it; not the most characterful you'll encounter
perhaps (though there's a distinct shortage of really
characterful performances) but in its "central" way impressively
done. Not the best choir in the world, but a very good set of
soloists (Stich-Randall's weird don't-join-the-dots mannerism is
less in evidence here than usual; anyway, you may find it a
useful contrast to Janowitz's can't-separate-the-dots manner).
The recording is first rate mono.

Absolutely. Not sure how wide his rep was in either of the following
composers, but his Handel (Saul) and Bach (St Matthew's Passion) are
outstanding. Both happen to be at BRO, for any interested.

Sublime -- but it missed by one year being in stereo.
This is the recording that started a life-long love affair with
Haydn for me. I first heard it around 1962, at a classical music
listening facility at Caltech where I was a student. I didn't
like it. But I kept coming back to it. When I started to buy LPs
of my own a few years later, it was an early purchase, in its
Vanguard Everyman incarnation. (Should that last word be
"indiskation"?)
The original recording was of very high quality and the
remastering is very good -- as long as you aren't bothered by
mono.

While it would not be my first choiuce of the work, I still like the
performance, but I wish they used Paul Schoeffler for both Raphael and
Adam; the set's Adam, Frederick Guthrie, is the main weakness among the
soloists. But Dermota is wonderful; in absence of a complete Wunderlich
( which nonetheless exists in Radio archives ) this is the best sung
Uriel, at least in ( relatively ) modern sound.

George
Remember, too, Julius Patzak of the Horenstein "Creation". The charm is
unmatched.
