In the British series Foyle's War, an episode called "The Cage" depicts use of atonal music as part of a menu of interrogation techniques.

I didn't identify the work, but it wouldn't make me talk. I wanted to hear more.

With some other techniques, I'd capitulate immediately.

This topic was a subject of discussion elsewhere a few months ago. That musical clip was original incidental music composed by the series' composer. If anything, it sounded somewhat anachronistic; more like a postwar composition than anything else.

Episode in question is in a post-war setting -- but not by much.

Thanks for info about the clip. Not surprised it was composed for the show. When watching it, I actually replayed the scene with the subtitles on. Helpfully, the subtitles indicted "atonal music playing".

Just saw this scene. Thought the music might have been the visionary Conlon Nancarrow b.1912 https://musicianguide.com/biographies/1608002900/Conlon-Nancarrow.html
