Here are all the Westminsters up through 1961, plus some other material.
FOUR zip files but worth the downloading time.
Scherchen, along with Mengelberg and Coates, was one of the great
extroverts, while Mravinsky and Rosbaud were among the introverts. And
Scherchen is to drums as Mengelberg is to brass. When Mr. Mencken was
asked to update his obituary, he said, "Just add 'as he got older he got
worse!'" I would say he just got more characteristically himself, which is
certainly true of Scherchen, Mengelberg, and Gould. I myself don't hear
nearly as much change in, say, Szigeti or Schnabel.
I do have, scattered among many cassettes, the H.M.V.'s he made, but these
were his first studio recordings, made before he really get his own voice.
Some personal favorites

What you won't get, because too late, is Wellington's Victory and works by
Orff and Gabrieli for multiple orchestras, nor Christ on the Mount of
Olives, and Vivaldi's Gloria. Live performances I can't include, for the
most part. He made the first Beethoven, Op. 126, Der glorreiche
Augenblick, a companion to Wellington's Victory and almost worth its
neglect. But his greatest recording, the greatest Mahler recording (which
happens to be of his greatest work) is the live third symphony, which may
still be available on Tahra.
Collecting Scherchen is fun. Though he made most of his Westminster
Recordings in London and Vienna, Westminster is an American label. Only a
fraction of them came out on European labels. I got many, many discs for
only $1. I packed off nearly most of them to a German collector, Werner
Unger, who runs the archiphon label, which contains a huge amount of both
records and concerts but is no longer as active as it was. I packed off
three big boxes, each holding a cubic foot of LPs to him to make, in due
course, expert transcriptions. It cost him $150 in U.S. postage per box.
Meanwhile, enjoy them yourself. Comments on which pressings I have are the
better ones will be much appreciated.
I have uploaded the Scherchen WAV files (again, through 1961) at
http://www.filefactory.com/f/e144f8d31b8590e7/. They are take up 45GB, but
hey! I've got 2TB of space at FileFactory. I am NOT going to zip them.
They are just there for anyone who might like to work with them. I no
longer have all but a few discs, which I am keeping as souvenirs.
Now comes a long and thorough listing of what may be my most diligent
project:
VIII. HERMANN SCHERCHEN, CONDUCTOR
(Westminster LPs, unless otherwise specified. This is mostly a shelf
listing, with matrix and stamper data often, but far from always, given.)
NOTE: My conversions to .wav files, even of monaural discs haver been
recorded stereophically, in case someone down the line would like to use
software that can pick the right channel, the left channel, or both
together as quieter. Paul Miller and Werner Unger have also produced .wav
transforms of Music for Multiple Orchestras, for both the WST and WGS
issues and Scherchen's second Haydn 100 (PSOL on W-LAB 7024). Werner also
converted the half-track Sonotape of the Haydn.

This is the third recording of the work and its first attempt at
authenticity. The first, on early electrics, was the over-sized recording
by Albert Coates, thrilling if hardly authentic. The second, late
electrics and early LPs, was conducted by Robert Shaw, an excellent
conductor for the music but not esp. individualistic. This, unfortunately,
describes most conductors. Coates and Scherchen are outstanding
exceptions, as are Abendroth, Mengelberg, and Mravinsky. I have obtained
nearly all of the recordings of these three also. This may mean that I am
able to distinguish at most a dozen conductors, which is my loss, but they
all sound like ormandy to me.

19. Chorale prelude on Vor deinen Thron' tret' ich hiermit, or Before Thy
throne I now appear. 4'40 "After his second stroke, the master, blind by
now, dictated to his son-in-law Johann Christoph Altnikel Vor deinen
Thron. This composition, which was found among the pages of the original
manuscript of The Art of the Fugue, sprang from the mind still possessed
of the most astute creative power although residing in a nearly broken
body whose sensory functions had already become nearly extinguished."
[Another version of the legend that Bach lay on his death bed. Unable to
finish the 18th fugue, he dictated the chorale prelude. Spurious or not,
it makes a fitting conclusion, though the great Helmut Walcha recorded his
own completion of the fugue. Scherchen's other studio recording did not
contain the prelude, but at least one of the three live performances known
to me does.]
For this recording: Strings = 8 1st vn, 6 2nd vn, 6 va, 4 vnc, 2 db; Winds
= 3 fl, 2 ob, 2 Eng h, 3 bn. 2 trumpets and 2 trombones serve as timbral
extension in nos. 1-, 12, and 18. Nos. 9, 13, 15, and 17 harpsichord.
Instrumentation and order in which the fugues are played is by the
Conductor.
