Which CDs are they? Are they really better than the radio broadcasts?
I have found this Gieseking disography, but it seems unclear – note
the frequent occurence of “(live?)”

BTW the only live Gieseking I have heard is the BBC recording.
Besides the BBC I've only the Forlane CD with the Kreisleriana,
Davidsbündler, and Bach's English Suite 6 - all recorded in 1953. The
performances sound as if they were recorded in a studio, certainly not
in a hall. It's only for Gieseking fans - Gieseking is great in the slow
movements but too often much too fast for his own fingers in the fast
movements.

I think there might be multiple live accounts of the Schumann works.
There's been talk of a Blano e Nero set here in the past. What I have,
and I think have mentioned before, is on the label Classico in Compact,
which of course is Italian. "Licenced [sic] by MC Musica Classica; (p)
1994, Analong transferring and digitial remastering: David A. Contini."
Davidsbundlertanze and Kinderszenen allegedly recorded 1951, Sonata #1
1942.
Classico in Compact tends to issue material also out (subsequently) on
Archipel, but in much better transfer.
I would recommend picking this up. I'm not fond of it, but it's unusual
playing for sure, and has a volatility and mania that are certainly
a-propos in Schumann.
