Nearly everything is here, except for a few things that I have only on LPs
less than fifty years old or on CDs.

ALBERT COATES (1882 April 23 (Good Friday) St. Petersburg-1953 December 11
Capetown)
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Coates_%28composer%29

Coates was the most masculine and vigorous of all conductors. He made his
first recording in 1920, Scriabin's The Poem of Ecsasy, and participated
in the abridged acoustic Ring. an acoustic and electric Beethoven Ninth,
sung in English, and a great many Russian works. He was one of several
conductors of the "Potted Ring," about a third of the tetralogy, fron
1929-32 for H.M.V., reissued on Pearl CDs. When Coates returns after other
conductors, there is a quite noticable picking up of vigor. When listening
to the set, I noted the pickup and said to myself, this is not
Collingwood, it is Coates! Sure enough, the notes to the set had made a
mistake.

Between 1932 and 1945, there was a lapse in his recording. It resumed with
a few recordings with the National Symphony Orchestra on Decca. The next
year he settled in South Africa. A few of his recodings there have
surfaced on South African CDs, on the Claremont label. I have all those I
know about, but since CDs are under copyright, I cannot send them. This
goes for a few other selections made on H.M.V, but which I have only on
LPs < fifty years old. I have one recording of his playing the piano, but
also on a late LP.

I have only managed to get some of the discs for the acoustic
Meistersinger. The whole thing appeared on CD, which I cannot send.

Otherwise, everything is here, though I think I am missing a few alternate
issued takes.
