Apr introduced Jose Iturbi in a big way to the CD format
with a 3 disc set:

https://www.amazon.com/Victor-HMV-Solo-Recordings/dp/B01G3MV28W/

Now Sony has expanded his CD discography with 16 CDs, called
From Hollywood to the World - The Rediscovered Recordings:

I have it but haven't listened to it yet. I haven't figured
out from the included book what is missing. The first question
of a Complete Set is "what is missing?"

None of the "Complete Recordings of xxxxxx" boxes
released by major labels are really completely complete
complete sets. Most commonly "missing" are radio or
stage performances that happened to be recorded by
opera houses, radio stations, or by the someone in
the audience that often fall outside contractual
rights of recording companies which are usually
limited to studio recordings.

I got the set a couple days ago, but haven't had time to listen to much of it yet. I did look through the track listings, though, and it looks like if the goal was to include all of Iturbi's RCA Victor recordings, it's more than complete, in that it includes a couple dozen previously-unissued titles plus V-Discs of items that didn't appear on RCA. It also includes three CDs of his sister (and duo-piano partner) Amparo Iturbi's complete issued RCA recordings. It doesn't include his later EMI recordings from after he left RCA in the mid-Fifties, but that's a job for Warner.

For those interested, hopefully Warner will follow up, esp. if the Sony set sells well. Most interesting for Iturbi fans among the Warners are the self-conducted Mozart 22 and Tchaikovsky 1 concertos. I have less-than pristine Angel copies of these, and frankly, they are not impressive. I believe at least one disc of Chopin was recorded in stereo.

I would appreciate if you could share what do you like about Iturbi,
in particular which works and performances do you think stand out.

TIA
