It looks as though this is soon to be released in Japan.

Is it going to be released elsewhere? If not, I’ll pre-order from HMV.

Here's a link with track listings:

Has the look of a French EMI release along the lines of the similar
Cziffra and Ciccolini boxes of recent years.
You'll be able to get it, though it likely may not be an official USA
EMI release.

I'm actually more interested in the other big EMI box that just showed
up there.
A 37 CD box of French Orchestral Music with Plasson. Not a favorite
conductor, but the box is more likely to have music I don't already
own than teh Francois box. But I could be wrong there too.

Google's Language Tools (which do seem to be a bit faster, though not as much
improved as their basic search) provide a few smiles, including "Oriakonbu
Louis" (Auriacombe?) and "Oh, listen to Mama's Variations in C major K265."

I like Plasson a lot.

As I used to say, "This set contains every Boxcar Willie song you could
ever possibly want. And more!"

This is a French box in their "sell the mess for less" series. This
stuff was all released in the 1990s, but that luxurious box did not
get wide distribution and was expensive. They have now added a few
things, about three CDs worth from what I can tell, probably
previously unissued material. I also think they may have remastered
the recordings, but I wonder how thorough they have been in that
regard.

Anyway, you'll find it at www.amazon.fr if you're interested in due
course.

Thanks for answering.
But I did not type that. I only copied a small part from that page.

So it looks like, once again, this hard to find and much praised cd
isn't in there

http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000641PL/qid=1147728773/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_0_3/302-7030109-3504862

What's the story behind this CD? Why wasn't it an "official" EMI
release even though it is branded with the EMI logo?

As I type, I realise I don't know enough about the music business to
even understand the phrase "official release"!

You have to understand what constitutes ownership.

Toshiba in Japan may well have issued this CD. Japan is the Wild West
from a copyright standpoint.

There is no reason to be,eve it was accessible to EMI France.

On the other hand, this is often more complicated than one thinks.
For example, when do you include (or not include) never-before-
released sessions? The French EMI Cziffra box is an example where
there is a lot of "additional" material other than teh officially
released recordings. To me that's when these boxes are really worth
getting.

Imagine the poor fellow who some day compiles the complete recordings
of Joyce Hatto. What do you include in that one? Everything???

I think the documentation for a "complete Joyce Hatto edition" would have
to have copious notes by William Barrington-Crook, plus an "Apologia" by,
say, Tom Deacon.

What did she actually record, beyond the Bax sonatas LP?

Here it is: http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B004258ATM

36 CDs for 70 Euros. According to the amazon.fr website, everything has
been remastered from the original tapes. Available beginning Oct 25th, to
conincide with Francois' death forty years ago (a few days give or take).
