The copyright information indicates that this set is a European issue
of the recent Japanese transfers. I have not yet had an opportunity
to compare them with the previous issue, but I recall that Simon
Roberts made the comparison when the Japanese set appeared, and he
declared them to be superior to the French EMI transfers.
These are splendid performances, and it is great to have them all
readily available again!

Must have been someone else - I haven't heard the French EMI release, only the
EMI imports (from Germany or wherever it was) that preceded it.
Simon
Here are a couple of postings from August 7, 2005. I don't think it
was unreasonable to infer that you were comparing the Japanese issue
with the French EMIs :-)

Yes, but you'll appreciate the extra bloom above the stave occasioned
by that 24 bit remastering....

When I heard that this set was being reissued, I went back to my French EMI
box and listened again to ## 4 and 5. Beautifully played and recorded (I
can't imagine that the new transfers could be better), but ever-so-slightly
on the dull side, IMO.

That's good to know. At least I don't have to replace the set I imported
from Japan earlier this year. (Then again, it would be nice to have notes
and what not in English . . .)
