This is a query to those who know the Japanese market, and ordering from
it over the Internet (or personally). I'm trying to get the earlier vols
of the Denon Sofronitsky edition, particularly 2, 4 and 5. The most
recent discs still list all the earlier discs, and vol 1 appears to be
still available, so I am hoping that 2/4/5 might be available somewhere,
somehow.

Typing Sofronitsky (and Sofronitzki, and Sofronitski) into www.hmv.co.jp
and www.tower.co.jp produces absolutely nothing from the Denon series,
which is surprising (this was done with the help of a Japanese friend,
so I'm sure we put him in the right fields).

Any tips? Any possibility of advice/help?

Nic

PS, if anyone's interested:

The whole series is listed here:

http://www.geocities.com/grahsco/Sofronitsky.html

There is a complete listing of his Melodiya LPs here:

Try emailing to Abend - my source for this set when it was first issued, and a
good place from which to order Japanese recordings: ab...@fd.catv.ne.jp

www.amazon.co.jp seems to have the whole thing.

And so on -- that should get you started. I've ordered from them
before and service was fine (apart from undecipherable emails in
Japanese). Shipping is slower but cheaper than HMV Japan.

I thought Abend had shut down. Or was that only their website?

(But I would guess their site is not slower than HMV's, which moves like
the Yukon in winter.)

shipping costs?

Thanks,

I ordered one double CD and one single CD, cost without shipping of
3,600 Yen ($29.96), on which shipping was 900 Yen ($7.49). I don't
know what would have happened had my order been smaller or larger.

It took around 2 weeks to arrive.

If you need to try the HMV site again, Use the advanced search option,
search for Sofronitzky, but not as the performer. Select the Keyword
option. That should list about 15 titles.

See this link:
http://www.hmv.co.jp/search/title.asp?category=KEYWORDS&keyword=Sofronitzky&
genre=700&advsea=1
