Well, it would have had to be before 1979. I remember seeing this set in
stores when it came out, but I didn't buy it. Tchakarov went on to conduct,
among other things, a series of Russian operas with Bulgarian performers for
Sony, until his death in 1991.

Another conductor who must have stories to tell is Loris Tcheknavorian, the
Iranian-born conductor of Armenian ethnicity (as is obvious from his name)
who left his home country around the time of the Islamic Revolution, and who
apparently still conducts there on occasion. He also conducts in Israel, but
I don't know whether the Iranian authorities go postal over the Israeli visa
stamps in his Austrian passport.

It's a two LP set from 1978.

Tchakarov died of AIDS at age 41.
