Probably my fav violin concerto ( with the Prokofiev 1st ) so I
probably need to add Ferras to Heifetz/Beecham ?

Where?
Your fav violin concerto and you have one recording only?
Try Oistrach/Rozhdestvensky.

Yep. You also need Bustabo, Wicks, and Spivakovsky among others :-)

The DGG version is superb. Sibelius usually brought out the best in HvK. This
is
no exception (that bizarre ca. 1980 EMI 2nd is an exception IMO).

Totally agree, and the Galleria reissue of the VC is c/w K's stupendous recording of
Tapiola.

Very good performance by Ferras, whose work I am not at all familiar
with. I presume it's stolen off the following DVD.

The young Mehta does a good job, but what the hell happened to him in
his recording of the Sibelius Second Symphony on Teldec? Bloated
unpleasant performance to be avoided at all costs. Or buy it as a
party record, to demonstrate just how NOT to play the Sibelius Second
Symphony.

As I recall, sluggish, stop-go tempi; overemphasis of secondary details;
seemingly
wilful subversion of the dramatic line of the piece.
