Now I've had one box set on membran, a duke ellington thing that was extremely badly mastered, but surely they can't go wrong with this one rite? That was from 78s and they just went crazy with the no noise, more annoying since I have most of it on 78s and bought it for a holiday...
Anyone have any thoughts?

Membran has reissued some OOP EMI boxes, apparently with Warner's consent and masters. One of these was 'The Art of Leonid Kogan' on 15 CDs, and it looks like this holds 10 of them. If it is the licensed reissues it will be excellent, and a real bargain. (Check out the Amazon price on the EMI box!)
Even it is a mix of EMI and Melodiya it's worth this money, unless you already have the contents. The complete Symphonie Espagnole is worth hearing if you don't have it, the trio recordings are great . . .

I have the Gulda set. The Meyer set is a straight reprint of the EMI set. It is one of the issues that caused me to suggest that the Kogan set might be a partial reissue of the EMI.

Interesting - do you happen to have a source for 'apparently with Warner's consent and masters'? Is any licensing info printed on the boxes or sleeves?

Intense Media appears to be another name for the Membran company,
like Documents, Artone, History, Maestro, etc. Membran severely
processes their transfers with noise reduction. I've heard their
Toscanini, Smetana and Furtwangler 10CD boxes, and the Kempe and
Mravinsky 4CD sets.

If anyone does buy this set perhaps they might do us all a service by reporting if (a) the content brings anything hitherto unavailable and (b) if the transfers are better, worse, or the same as previous EMI issues.
