Have there been any famous 20th Century orchestra conductors
that were left handed. If so, how did this effect their conducting
technique?

The Finnish conductor Paavo Berglund always carries the baton in his
left hand. So I think he is left handed.

Sigfried Wagner was a left-handed conductor but trained himself to use
the baton with his right hand because of prejudices then prevalent
about using the left hand for anything significant.

hand.

Okay...but I'm not famous..

Does Paavo Berglund rate as famous?

In actual fact, Berglund is the one conductor I have heard live goodness
knows how many times. Well over double figures for sure. All with the
Bournemouth SO.

In article <ffe46551-2926-43d1...@googlegroups.com>,
There are probably more. Conducting is quite an accommodating
profession. By contrast, a left handed fiddler can really do you a
mischief.
