Anyone know what kind of music related credentials these initials are?
And how are the obtained?

LRSM:
Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music -- this is a diploma, available
either as a teachers or performers diploma, administered by the Associated
Board of the Royal Schools of Music, typically in various countries overseas.
LRSM is usually considered of a lower, or at least less certain, standard
than the specific diplomas of the individual music Colleges -- at least
the College, the Academy or the Guildhall (even if not Trinity and
the London College), partly as they are examined by a gneral, visiting
examiner, who may be examining in an instrument other than his own.
ARCM:
Associate of the Royal College of Music -- open to external candidates as well
as members of the Royal College -- a respectable diploma, again with versions
for performers and players, in a variety of different instruments and singing.
Recently they instituted an ARCM in conducting as well, but I think that is
only for their own conducting students and is not available externally.
It's rather tricky, because courses and qualifications in the UK conservatoires
are changing now, with an incrasing academic content, whilst those
at UK universities are allowing increasingly substantial components of
performance in them. It's all getting rather confused, and one does not get
the impression that it conduces to rising standards, or at least to
greater _uniformity_ of standards...
Soon it will even become possible to gain a doctorate through performance,
rather than research or even composition!

Er, see above! You asked about those twice! :-)
Best wises,
Haig
P.S. There is an explanation of most of these abbreviations in the two
older editions of the Oxford Dictionary of Music -- the older Kennedy one
and the Scholes one. I am not sure about the most recent edition, though.
>And how are the obtained?
By examination, which in most cases involves a combination of interview,
written papers, and performance. The teaching qualifications usually entail
a greater element of paperwork and, whilst officially the standard of
performance is no lower, one typically has greater latitude in (for instance)
the choice of pieces for the performance component of the examination.
But for up-to-date information I advise consulting the relevant bodies

> LRAM
Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (London)
> ARCM
Associate of the Royal College of Music (London)
The above are Diplomas awarded as a result of examinations which
include practical and theoretical elements and aural tests. There are
separate syllabuses for teachers, performers, and in the case of
pianists, also accompanists.
> LTCL/ATCL
Licentiate/Associate of Trinity College (of Music) London
I don't know what the distinction is between these. One may be for full
time students of the college and the other for external candidates. As
far as I know they are awarded on examination as above.
> FTCL
Fellow of TCL. I think this may be an honorary title.
> LRSM
Probably Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music i.e. Royal Academy
of Music, Royal College of Music (both London), Royal Northern College of
Music (Manchester), Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Glasgow).
> GRSM
Graduate of the Royal Schools of Music. I expect this is now equivalent
to a university degree, awarded to those who have undertaken a full
time course of training as music teachers.
> ALCM
Associate of the London College of Music.
These are the only ones familiar to me, and I'm not sure how up to date
I am with my information.

ARCT: Associate Royal Conservatory Teacher
This is Obtained from the Royal Conservatory of Music(Toronto, Canada).
It designates you as an official Associate Teacher of the Conservatory.
There are two categories: Performance, and Teachers.
Performance - concentrates of the aspect of performance. You have
to Five pieces and a Concert Etude for the exam. You do not have to
play any elements of technique(scales, arpeggios, etc.). Think of it as
a mini recital. Pieces are selected from the current syllabus of the
Conservatory. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Late Romantic(Debusy),
Impressionism/20th Century, and a Concert Etude. Memorizing is
mandatory. Students will be also marked on the selection of pieces as a
whole, if their selection includes contrasting variety in Key, Time
Signature, Tempo, etc.
Teachers - concentrates on elements of technique, playing technique,
theory, ability to play Grade 8, 9, and 10 pieces included in the Royal
Conservatory Syllabus. Memorizing of these pieces in not mandatory, as
this exam mostly concentrates on technique and theory.
LRCT: Licentiate Royal Conservatory Teacher
Hope this helps
