Tim is the assistant principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony and the
Principal trumpet of the Pops. The piece in question is called Summon
The Heroes by John Williams. Tim has also been featured in some
other John Williams movie scores. I know for sure that he did JFK. I
am not sure of the others. He is a great player!

The information I have is that the solo was heard (& seen) everywhere
in the world except the US, where NBC was running a commercial at
that time.

Clifhanger, Frankenstein........

The sound you hear is that of James Thompson(of the ASO)formerly
principal trumpet of the Montreal symphony. Our orchestra spent several
hours prerecording the sounds you heard on your televisions.

The trumpet soloist was Jim Thompson. He is principle trumpet of the
Atlanta Symphony. He has been here since 1989 I think. He was in
Montreal prior to that. He is a magnificant player, isn't he? We are
very fortunate. If you want to hear him with the ASO, check out the
CD of the Mahler V with Yoel Levi conducting. He will blow you away!
I have heard that he is also a very fine instructor, although I have
never had a lesson with him. Hope this helps.....

Tim Morrison IS in the Boston Symphony. He's the 3rd trumpet and
assoc.principal trumpet in the Symphony. The Pops only play during the
season the Symphony's not playing. When the pops play, the personnell are
usually those of the Symphony, except for the principals who play in the
Boston Chamber players. The augment the rest with freelances from the area.
Hence the BSO assoc.principals take over as principals on the Pops.
Tim still freelances for the Empire Brass.....he used to play with them.
On the whole I think he's fantastic, and if you really like him,you should
check out the BPO album Music for Stage and Screen where Tim plays solo
in 3 out of 4 pieces.
