At last! We have a newsgroup for the classical guitar...
I thank all who voted yes. Today is Tues, Oct 27...and as
far as I could tell, this is only the second posting to
the newsgroup...I tried posting before today but the local
newsreader/poster hadn't yet acknowledged rec.music.classical.
guitar (I hope that most people will be able to post now...I'm
going to send out some email to the mailing list that I
have, in fact, it just occurred to me now that it might be
a good idea to post the current mailing list once a month or
so, so that those that wish to be added could be - any thoughts?)

I have a good deal of things that I'd like to post...but (as
I am still a student!) I have an exam tomorrow and can't spend
too much time on this today! :-(

Just in general, I think it would be a great idea if anyone
who knew of a worthwhile classical guitar performance (or
performances!) would post the relevant information to this
newsgroup. Perhaps stating the geographical location in
the subject field so that those who are simply out of that
geographical range could just ignore that particular post.
Just a thought? Myself, I could see performances anywhere
from Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia, to New York City...
so does anyone know of some performances? Also, I was
just wondering (I know this may be a long shot!) if there
were something in the classical guitar realm that was
analogous to an intimate "jazz lounge" or a creative
salon...someplace to go to enjoy a some good wine, great
conversation and even better music!

Also, I'm looking for some suggestions as to a good
David Russel recording? I never seem to find much in the
places I try.

Well, I'm back to my studies for now...but I'm looking forward
to both posting and reading r.m.c.g.!

David

Greetings:

I have a collection of quite old classical guitar music in decent condition. It should be in an secure archive for research or historical purposes. Time frame is from mid 19th century to early 20th.

Cataloging and analysis could be a good project for a Masters of Music thesis.

Please connect me with someone who is in scholarly need of such literature.

WOW! What an absolute pleasure to read this announcement from 1992! This is so cool! my own first post to a newsgroup was in 1995 (I was about 26 years old), to an lsi.cad group regarding magic in linux. But what a treat to get this glimpse at the beginning of RMCG!

In true RMCG fashion, before I knew the date of the post I was totally planning to make smart alec remarks about how someone thought they started RMCG....LOL
