Takimine's are ok guitars. They sound especially good when miced. My
philosphy is to find a guitar that *natuarally" sounds good, so when
you mike it, it will sound that much better. :)

Just my opinion.

I have been disappointed in the quality of the wood, the construction
details, and the relatively featureless sound. But they can be had
cheaply! Acoustic Guitar rated budget classicals in the Oct. 95
issue. TheyFoudn the materials below average and some problems with
the fretboard. They noted the even tone, which is typical of taks in
my experience (I've had a few). They are nice to play, but I don't
like the character of the sound; neither did the Acoustic guitar
folks. In that price range, I'd be tempted to call Jerry Roberts in
Nashville and see what he has used. 615 269 3929 I've played an
inexpensive Rodriguez imported by Fender that was ugly but had
wonderful sound. A few of the inexpensive Sponish-made Arias sounded
really rich, but they vary lots. The Acoustic Guitar article
highlights the Palmer Espana Michelle, which is hard to get, and the
Washburn C80S, which I've heard other good reports on.

In any case, have someone play a few different guitars for you, so you
can hear what you're getting!

Ditto. Good "beginner" guitar. Not too cheap such that its hard to play
and frustrating, nor will you need to trade up within 6 months. A very
reasonably priced solid top guitar.

I was wondering if giving a qualitative assessment of a guitar could
include _what_ you find good, limiting, mediocre, characteristic, missing,
or excellent about a guitar's sound. "I like it" tells nothing. It would
help and be more substative.

Thanks,

I bought one today. It's a G-124s. It sounds better than either of my two Yamaha guitars. They don't have to be expensive. I got mine for $100 with a nice hard case. I suggest this guitar. I think I'd rather have a Yamaha Grand Concert series guitar, but I don't.
