Anyone else purchase the recent Keith Green Live His Incredible Youth
CD? Isn't that just the most precious CD to come out in years?!?!?
It looks like his parents produced it. Possibly now that Melody is
remarried, she gave the ok??? Who knows...
Anyway, on to my question...I've read in No Compromise (Melody's book
on Keith's life) that Keith recorded a record called Revelations.
And, I also heard on the new CD Keith mention an album called Personal
Songs which contains Letters to Mother (which is also on the new CD).
Also, in the liner notes for the new CD there is mention of a 3
movement rock opera called "The Prophet".
So...my question is...Does anyone here own the Revelations or Personal
Songs albums??? And if anyone has a recording of "The Prophet" that
would be great, too. If so, I'd be interested in mailing some tapes
to you so I could have copies of these albums. The new CD is just not
enough for me, I have to hear MORE!!! :)
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm by no means the world's greatest Keith Green fan, as measured in
albums owned or years listening to his music, but I do think that KG was
just the world's greatest musician. I love playing his songs on piano,
although it takes some serious transposition for me to sing along.

Huh. I've got a recent (November) catalogue from Last Day's ministries,
and there's no mention of either of those in it. I'd love to get my hands
on 'em. BTW, I can post the address for LDM if anyone wants it....

I looked, and there before me was a pale horse. Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him...I heard a great voice saying "Go, pour out the wrath of God upon the earth"...and I saw Satan fall like lightning from Heaven!

I agree. He was a musical genius. His life story is extremely
interesting. He could hum "Mary
had a little lamb" (or something similar) when he was only 9 months
old! He was a child prodigy
from the start and destined for greatness. And we are the
beneficiaries of his great unending
dedication to the Lord up until his death in 1982. The only thing I
regret is that I wasn't a
Christian at the time and never saw him in concert. :( :( :( But...I
have the Keith Green Memorial
Concert Video!!!!! Yeah!!!! :) :) :)

For LDM, just call 1-800-2BUYLDM. But this is not an LDM offering. I
have the latest LDM
catalogue, too. And it's definitely *not* in there, and I think I
know why. My suspicions are that
Keith's parents wanted the world to see what a great musician Keith
was *before* he was saved
and how his early songs where filled with hope, humour, and
spirituality even at that time in his
life. And I also suspect that Melody's marriage to Andy Severight
(sp?) has something to do with
it as well. But, just a guess. :) If you love Keith's music, you will
just come to tears (and laughter)
when you hear this CD. And I mean that! It's great!!! :)
Here's some info that folks have been wanting...It is produced by:

I'm sure your local Gospelland Bookstore (or whatever you all have in

Ok, for the curious...here's the good stuff:
Front of CD case has picture of a bearded Keith at the piano, but all
that can be seen is his
upper torso and a microphone. The picture is done in such a way that
only the outline of Keith
can be seen. Above him are angels (baby cherubs). Below Keith is the
CD title, "Keith Green
Live, His Incredible Youth".
On the back is the track list...
1. Stay On The Path 5:26 (You'll cry)
2. Everybody's Rapin' Mother Nature 3:22 (You'll laugh)
3. Whatcha' Gonna Do Now? 3:29 (You'll laugh and clap along...he even
says "damn"...oh my :)
4. Letters To Mother (From The Road) 3:32 (You'll definitely cry)
5. We're All In This Together 5:47 (Makes you think)
6. Love All Your Animal Friends 2:48 (You'll definitely laugh)
7. War Games 3:39 (Great piano work..some parts sound like Keith's
Piano Prelude)
8. Haircut 3:38 (All the long hairs will love this one)
9. Encore 3:47 (Nice ending)

The Incredible Youth of Keith Green
Although Keith went to be with The Lord in a private plane crash in
1982 with two of his four
children, Keith Green's legacy lives on this new album of
soul-stirring live performance of never
before released songs recorded at a college concert. Even at age 18,
"Keith's music was on the
cutting edge-energetic excitement that pierces the heart."
It also says Produced by: Harvey Green and Char Green (his parents???)
Ok, you open the liner notes and the inside says the following:
SOME HIGHTLIGHTS FROM KEITH GREEN'S CAREER AS A YOUTH
This new album "Keith Green Live" was recorded at age 18 (!!!), at the
University of New
Mexico. Keith sings and entertains with sincere conviction and
intense emotion from within his
heart and soul, keeping a large audience spellbound. His original
songs vary from profound
messages to wonderful humor that propel you on a high. Keith truly has
a love affair with his
audience and they respond with "gusto."
After eleven years of formal training starting at age 6, he played
fantastic piano, trasposing in
any key. Keith could play any music from rock, jazz, to classical, on
a variety of other
instruments including drums, clarinet, ukulele, guitar and xylophone.
He also helped in the
engineering of his studio recordings. Many professionals called him a
musical genius with a God
given talent far beyond his young years.
At age 11, Keith recorded for Decca Records (now MCA). Half of the
songs recorded, Keith
wrote himself. He became the youngest member of ASCAP.
He played in the Sound of Music on stage with Janet Blair. He worked
for Disney Studios on
feature films and on many TV shows. He did a special with Sammy Davis
Jr. and worked with
Dick Clark, Jack Benny, Arthur Godfrey, Steve Allen (This guy's
another genius, btw, a great
author and prolific songwriter), Joan Crawford, among others.
Col. Parker (Elvis Presley's manager) caught Keith on an 8 AM TV show.
Colonel Parker called
by phone from MGM studios to tell us how great Keith performed. He
said Keith was going to be
a big star. At that time, Keith was 9 1/2. The Colonel offered his
help if needed. On many
occasions he responded out of kindness, when asked for advice.
The extreme climax of Keith's teen-age years was when he ran away from
home, in his senior
high school year, with just the clothes on his back. He spent most of
his time in Washington
State before returning as did the prodigal, writing "The Prodigal Son
Suite" at age 16 1/2.
(WOW!!! Only 16 1/2!!!) Keith was always searching and had acquired a
deep spiritual thought.
This was inspired by his parents in a God centered Christian home.
Keith was recently honored, when his song "The Prodigal Son Suite" was
chosen by The
American Bible Society to be included on a CD/ROM they are preparing
for young people about
the parable of the prodigal son. They expect to use his song "On The
Road to Jerico" for the
parable of the good samaritan.
A biography, with photographs, "The Youth of Keith Green" will soon be
released (YEAH!!!)
covering Keith's exciting and varied show business career.
Harvey and Char Green
(That ends the inside notes. There are also some neat pictures of
Keith: a Decca publicity photo
at age 11, teenage Keith at the piano, "hippy" Keith, and teenage
Keith with a Beatle-type hairdo.
I'm sure Melody's not too crazy about all this. Perhaps she's thinking
his parents are attempting
to tarnish his "Christian" image? Oh well, who knows)
The flip side of the CD liner notes has an article published by the
Albuquerque Journal about
Keith's concert which is on the CD...
Teen's Play 'Fantastic' In Concert at Popejoy
by Joan Simon
An audience of 1000 sat in Popejoy Hall Wednesday night, not knowing
what to expect. What it
got was Keith Green, an 18-year-old song writer from Los Angeles, and
some fantastic piano
playing.
Green opened his set without a word. It was his first major concert
and he seemed a bit afraid.
But once he started playing, to feverouly strum at his guitar, smiles
flowed back and forth
between the stage and the audience.
His guitar playing showed more youthful exuberance than mellowed
maturity. But once he sat
down at the grand piano, it became obvious where Green's talents lay.
THE FIRST half of the program was devoted to songs from a soon-to-be
released album
"Revelations" and Personal Songs"--an album in progress. (I WANT
THESE!!!!!!!) The joyous
scream of "I'm Alive" throughout "Waiting for Today" led to the
pointed humor of "Raping Mother
Nature." Green's lyrics fluctuated between deep personal philosophy
and easy to relate-to
humor.
By the middle of the first set, Green had the audience whistling and
clapping along to "Whatcha'
Gonna Do Now." His voice was strong, showing no strain as he reached
for high notes. But, talk
about Keith Green has to get back to his piano. He's played for 13
years and it certainly shows.
His style reminds one of the foot-tapping power of Carole King with an
occasional classical bent.
THE SECOND half of the program consisted of excerpts from a coming
rock operetta inspired by
the writings of Kahil Gibran's "The Profit." For a young man, Green
shows a great deal of spirited
awareness in the lyrics. His voice contained an emotional intensity
not obvious in the light first
half of the show.
Keith Green said he was "happy to be in Albuquerque." It was obvious
the audience was glad to
have him.

There's more, but my fingers are getting tired. Now, everyone go out
and get the CD. All the
above is Copyright Sonrise Music Co. Apologies to them if presenting
it here hurts their feelings.
If nothing else, it will bring them some business. :)

{Lots of cool Keith Green info snipped}
Wow, those albums sound really cool.
...and yet, I hesitate to buy them. To me, the most moving thing about
Keith's music is his Message. Semms like I'm learning something new every
time I hear it. I don't know if I would want to hear him singin' an'
playin' without that. I don't want to ignore or disregard his
non-Christian life, because it makes a compelling testimony (as read in No
Compromise), but I don't think I would want to hear his music without the
deep Christian thought behind it. Hope that isn't too confusing.....

Yea, I hear you. Still, seeking truth and having the Truth are two
different things. It may be interesting to hear, but I guess that I just
want Keith's Message. Must be just me :*)
