yeah, i have one piece of advice: take care of your signed acts. when
you send them on the road, don't make them take out second mortgages to
pay for their gas, food, etc. give them money, so they can send money
home, so their wives/husbands/children at home will not starve or get
evicted because of lack of money. your acts deserve a salary. they
don't deserve to be thrown out there and not be taken care of. in
short, do the opposite of what most Christian labels do.
peace,

The fact the you are asking means that this is going to be a very long
hard road for you indeed! Usually those who start a record company have
been in the business for many years in some capacity or another. They
usually see something wrong with thet way things are done and figure
they could do a better job.
I would say the best thing you could do right now is start to network.
Talk to other labels in your area, feel out the scene, etc. You will
most likely be able to learn more from secular labels that have been
succesful.
Also, you may want to try and find a few (and I mean few) acts that you
really dig, think are great, and could sell if given the proper
attention. It might help if they also have a self-produced CD that is
good enough for release.
Your other challenge will be to capitalize your company. Unless you are
independantly wealthy it may be difficult. A record company is a very
risky investment, so you may have to really work hard to get the
financing you need.
