"I cannot keep my mouth shut.
I initially joined this list because I wanted to stay
informed about
what was going on in the scene from an "industry"
perspective, rather
than relying on the rumor of the Internet message boards. I
am dismayed
with the content of a couple threads in this forum. The
discussion on
this list surrounding "punk rock" and Mr Brandon Ebel
reaffirm why I am
continually exasperated and sickened by the so-called
"christian"
industry.
Rather than giving my two-cents worth about punk and Ebel, I
will say
this: The christian rock community loves to complain and
whine. But
christians can't just leave it alone. They have to become
obsessed with
digging up dirt, complaining about a band's lyrics, or how
much
attention the rock star/journalist/label guy gives to the
"kids" (to
name a few). Further, this amounts to unsubstantiated rumor
and tabloid
innuendo (i.e. see MxPx or Michael English/Sandi Patti/ et
al).
As *Christians* we need to stand for integrity, honesty, and
accountability. Why can we ponder the salvation of a band,
or the heart
of a label president in such a cowardly way as airing our
disdain on an
e-mail list!?! I am willing to bet that those who have had
harsh words,
would not have the guts to say what they said on this list
to Brandon
Ebel's face! Besides, is this how christians conduct
themselves? Should
they?
The christian industry is a bit of an oxymoron, but it is a
fact. We all
want to be successful (however we define it), we all want to
be able to
pay the bills, put food on the table, and live in relative
comfort. I
understand the *business* and that *business* can get dirty.
The point
is that we are *in* the world, not *of* the world. Let us be
accountable
for our words. Let us remember that no matter how *bad*
someone else is
(perceived or real), are we better?
I publish a magazine. I am not out to be Brandon Ebel's (or
any other
label head) friend, I am there to cover bands that I feel
deserve it by
including articles and/or reviews. That is *business*. We
all "hear"
things about this man or that woman, but that is gossip and
many times
simply degenerates into slander. This is where our faith and
our
humility and accountability should kick in. Let's face it,
is Brandon
Ebel's business practices damning kids/men/women to Hell,
are they
literally sinister? Come on, this is rock n roll folks. At
the end of
the day, it is where our hearts are, not where we stand on
Brandon Ebel
and his label.

Ummm...thanks for the message, and I agree with it's content, but I could
stand a bit more background info. From what I gather, it's become common
knowledge in some circles, so if you don't want to rehash it here, you can
email me at christ...@yahoo.com or jmar...@hotmail.com .

is it me, or is this type of responce saying "sure I agree
that the internet shouldn't be used to spread rumors, but spread that one
to me because I love gossip"
Maybe I'm missreading this one but
I found it a little ironic
