Nope. It's an interesting little fable that has developed over the years,
but Phil flatly denies it (in several interviews and in his "Phil Keaggy:
Electric Guitar Style" video). It was a farm accident (Phil grew up in
the midwest): a water pump fell on his hand, severing that finger.
Actually, Phil never mentions Hendrix (that's Jimi, not Jimmy, by the way)
as an influence, although I read several pieces that liken the two's styles
(erroneously, IMHO).

the last True Tunes that I got had an interview with Phil Keaggy
in it (about his life and some about crimson and blue) and he DID say
that he did listen to Jimmi Hendrix when he was growing up.....
at least i'm pretty sure...i'll type in part of it when i get home and post
it..
