Does anyone know if Steven Soles (formerly of the Alpha Band with T-Bone
Burnett and David Mansfield) is still recording or when he last did? I
have two records he made in the early eighties, I think, both on Good News
records. I think that he has a wonderful voice and a knack for making good
music. I've seen his name around some (i.e., as a producer on Peter Case's
"Blue Guitar" and a Victoria Williams CD, and doing background vocals on
Jackson Browne's recent CD) but I haven't seen a new album from him in 10
years. If he has stopped recording altogether, we have lost a tremendous
talent.

Maybe the Alpha Band should regroup??????

Any info anyone can provide will get greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Steve "Steve" Soles is mostly doing the producer thing these days. I
think the two albums you have from the early eighties are the last
albums he's recorded under his own name. His production credits are
plentififul, though - Peter Case, Bob Neuwirth, Victoria Williams,
Joe Henry (a *great* singer/songwriter in the Jackson Browne vein),
and Pierce Pettis, for starters.

He *does* make the occasional contribution to other peoples' albums,
though -- mostly on the albums he produces. And The Alpha Band did
regroup, sort of, on Bob Neuwirth's "Back to the Front" album, which
features T-Bone, Soles, and Mansfield playing and singing on the
same cuts, even if they don't officially call themselves The Alpha
Band. That album also features Peter Case, Victoria Williams, and
Sam Phillips -- sort of an All-Star jam session and all-around
wonderful album. You also get Bob Neuwirth, who may write better
songs than anybody in the bunch.
