If I remember, that was one of Waranke's original replies. Didn't his
publishers offer him time to defend himself?
Besides, what does JPUSA have to gain by getting rid of Waranke.
Still wondering why,
Aaron
In a nutshell, Cornerstone magazine investigated what appeared to be some
discrepencies in his "testimony". Once they started digging, they found
more and more. As it turned out, he was never a satanist, let alone a
leader of a coven. Details he gave of his past, such as taking part in
acid experiments just to get free drugs, turned out to have been
impossible (ie. the schools had never conducted LSD tests). Apparently
he hadn't even attended the colleges that he claimed to have degrees from.
Comedy is one thing, but Waranke's "ministry" was based on what turned out
to be a lie.
Waranke offered several responses to the accusations, none were sufficient
according to Word, who eventually disconjtinued his tapes, books, etc.
If you really want all of the details, look up the book, "Selling Satan"
by John Trott (published by Cornerstone Press).

Cornerstone Magazine did an expose on him a few years back that seemed
to show rather definitively that his testimony was untrue and that he
was making a _lot_ of money off of his ministry, with very little of
it going to the causes that it supposedly was going to. The article
is online-you might try a search engine, or go to Bev's webpage (I think
she has a copy of it there, anyway).
There are still some who dispute Cornerstone's claims, but I haven't
seen any hard information presented to dispute it, just vague claims
along the lines of "Satan's getting revenge on Warnke" or something.

"Summer's going fast, nights growing colder

Anyone disputing the claims has to have their eyes tightly shut and
their heart pretty set on not believing well-documented evidence. Warnke
also behaved pretty oddly about the whole thing if he was innocent.
This was one time where the Christians spent a LOT of time and effort
doing research and verifying their information before they released the
story. Unless the thing was a very elaborate hoax to discredit him - but
it's so big and documented, if that were true you should be able to blow
holes all over the place in it. And, as far as I know, no one has been
able to. Some people just have trouble with harsh truth sometimes, I
guess, and it's easier (?) for them to lie to themselves than deal with it.
From what I know or have heard, he sorta dropped out of the circuit for a
while, and his label (Word?) pulled his albums I think. But after a
couple of years or so, he started trying to do a comeback thing,
supposedly putting himself under different authority and stuff. I think
he did at least one or two appearances on TBN at that time. I don't
think it flew though, as I haven't heard much since then.

I looked over the book (Sellign Satan) once and it would appear that they
have added more documented evidence to the original article. I thought
the personal testimonies were only a small part with the proof lying in
public record. After all, the whoe thing began because people noticed
that if you compared one Wanranke testimony with another, they didn't
match up.

The only issue I had with it was that a lot of the information they
presented were word-of-mouth testamonies from Warnke's college friends,
girlfriend, ex-employees, etc. There is some potential that all those
people were mad at him or something and didn't tell the truth (pretty slim
possibility, given the number of them...) On the other hand, even if they
did, there are plenty of things they documented which would cast a lot of
doubt on his testamony that are more matters of public record, such as the
income of his ministry, all his divorces, military record, etc are more
matters of public record.

He's still around. He and his wife spoke at a church here in town about 2
months ago. It wasn't a one night standup comedy type thing like he used
to do, but more like some sort of revival meeting, where he spoke 3-4
nights in a row. I didn't go, so can't say anything about what he said.

It would have to be a HUGE well-organized conspiracy that was
established over 20-30 years ago... Also, the testimonies of his
foster family and some friends (with fond memories of Warnke) are
damning.
Previously, all the public had to go on was simply Warnke's word about
his background. All they did was attempt to find corroberating
evidence. Even if they didn't interview all of those people, the
public record blows his story away.

Absolutely.

There were definitely word-of-mouth testimonies involved, but a lot of the
documented evidence that I remember were matters of public record and the
sizeable discrepancies between his own word-of-mouth stories about his
life and background. Plus, I think most of the word-of-mouth testimonies
only sorta threw a few more logs onto the inferno. It'd be a pretty far
reaching conspiracy for that many people to be able to lie that well, plus
have the pictures and all the faked public records and so.
It just goes to show you how strong the devil really is in this world and
how he can trick people into believing lies about God's own. Free Warnke!
uh...just kidding. :)

I'll mail it to you in a nutshell. Mail me back if there are some details
you are missing.
1) Waranke fans begin to notice some problems with his testimony.
2) Cornerstone magazine investigates and exposes Warnke as essentually a
totla fraud. Not just a few mixed up dates, but things like, he was never
a satnaist, never graduated from colleges that he claime to have, etc.
Problem: while he was taking in money for various ministries the share
seemed to be $1 for runaway teens, $1000 for Mike Waranke.
3) Word publications announces that they will await Waranke's response
before making any descisions.
4) Waranke offers several excuses. Word is not satisfied. All
distribution of waranke's tapes and books stops
5) Waranke is said to be leading youth revivals at whatever church will
have him.
