The following people are to blame for major portions of the Phile:
mau...@david.wheaton.edu (Mark Aubrey):
Provided nearly all track lists, track times and album dates for the long
discography.
p...@cs.mu.oz.au (Peter Thompson):
Editor - all typos and formatting are mine. Mine, do you hear?
Track lists for Private Collection II-IV, and The Boot Collection.

dar...@sr.hp.com (Daren McClearnon):
Provided song lists for Emerging, It Makes Me Glad, Synergy, and Glass
Harp, and some of the info below (mostly the Glass Harp stuff). Inspired
the re-formatting of the discography.

2. FRAGMENTARY BIOGRAPHY
[pkv.n] refers to Phil Keaggy The Newsletter volume v number n.
[hwod.t] refers to track t of disk d of How The West Was One.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Born: Sometime in February-July, 1951 (turned 40 in 1991) [pk1.2]. 9th of
10 children, parents Jim ? Keaggy and Marguerite ? ?, brothers Mike, Dave
(who sells computers [pk2.1]), Karl, Bill, and Jim (in heaven); sisters
Ellen, Peg, Kathy and younger sister [hwo1.16] Geri [pk2.1].
Spent part of his childhood in Hubbard, Ohio & lost a finger there (see
below). Spent some of the 70s in a commune; now lives somewhere in
Tennesse.
Born again: February 1970 [pk1.4], older sister Ellen assisting.
Appearance: 5 foot 4 inches [pk2.1], clean shaven, dark collar length
hair with high front hairline. Wears a beret a lot lately. Missing a body
part - "When I was four I climbed up on to the [farmyard] pump to get a
drink of water when suddenly the old wooden base broke apart causing the
pump to fall through [the cover,] cutting off my middle finger on the right
hand." (Phil Keaggy, in [pk1.3])
Married: Sometime in 1973 to Bernadette ? ?.
Children:
5 children miscarried during 1975-76. Book written by Bernadette about
this period available
sometime 1993.
Alica Marguerite.g, 11 in July 1991 [pk1.2]
Olivia Ann, 7 in July 1991 [pk1.2]
Ian ?, turned 4 in June 1991 [pk1.2]
Sponsors at least one child through Compassion International [pk1.2]
Misc.:
Played at Paul McCartney's wife's sister's wedding for that Christian
couple (Paul said Phil sounded like James Taylor!) [pk1.1].
Uses James Olsen custom guitars.
No-one has yet given me a reference for the legendary story of
<legendary guitar player> reply in an interview that Phil was the world's
greatest guitar player; a friend of mine says he saw it "in a guitar
magazine", but until he or someone else finds it, I'm treating it similar
to <legendary guitar figure> replies "I don't know about that, but he's
sure the shortest" when asked if Phil was the world's greatest guitar
player.
LOCATIONS:
Youngstown, Ohio: Glass Harp days
Love Inn, Upper New York State: 1973-1977
Southern California: Most of the (subsequent decade) 80s
Nashville, Tennesse: To date
PHIL TRIVIA BUFFS:
There are two Glass Harp albums displayed in the music rack in Phil's
basement behind him in the photo on the back cover of "Private Collection
Vol. 1 - Underground" 1 (LP). "It Makes Me Glad" is facing the camera with
the words "Glass Harp" clearly legible. "Synergy" is the whitish album
cover at an angle in the bottom of the rack. It has a green "omega" with a
red stylized lightning bolt through it.
SONG ABOUT GLASS HARP: "Wished You Were There" on the "Town To Town" album
is about the surprise Glass Harp reunion concerts given on Friday April 10,
1981 at Cleveland Masonic Auditorium and the next night at Akron Civic
Theatre. In the song, Phil alternates between wistful nostalgia and
annoyance at not being mentioned by Anastasia Pantansios (??)(the memory
fades), the music beat reporter at the time for the Cleveland Plain Dealer
newspaper. Glass Harp was not announced beforehand, and never played
again. Rumors even circulated that the trio had reunited illegally (since
Pecchio and Sferra were still active in Northeast Ohio bands at the time).
Clearly, among the best $5 I have ever spent: among the 8 Keaggy shows I
have seen since 1980, this was the most inspired, rockingest Keaggy ever
seen. His albums, until "Sunday's Child," never approached the fire of
that night.
SUBJECTIVELY, "Song in the Air" is a collection of the most CCM-oriented
songs by Glass Harp. There is modest overlap with the truly BEST songs of
Glass Harp. While "Synergy" and "It Makes Me Glad" are progressively
weaker albums, only songs 5, 6, and 10 of the "Glass Harp" album were
mediocre. Songs 1 & 2 were even played occasionally on regular Cleveland
radio (late 70's).
FINALLY, there is the "Welcome t'one and all. Tonight, J.D.'s & Kent State
University, Ohio, all the way to Carnegie Hall. Let us please welcome
Decca recording artists, Glass Harp" intro to "I've Just Begun (Again)" off
of the "Sunday's Child" album. The two flanged Gsus chords struck before
the real song begins are the intro to "Look In The Sky" from the "Glass
Harp" album.
FOR MORE INFORMATION, a good article to read is titled "Sunday's Child is
Full of Grace" in the January, 1989 issue of Contemporary Christian Music
magazine. I'm sure there are other good sources of Keaggy biographical
information.

3. ALBUMS IN PRINT
This includes only those albums currently generally available - see long
discography and club information below for details on others.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crimson and Blue (1993) Myrrh
Revelator (1993) Myrrh (CD only)
Has $2 off Crimson and Blue coupon.
Beyond Nature (1991) Myrrh
Classical acoustic instrumental.
Find Me In These Fields (1990) Myrrh
Phil Keaggy And Sunday's Child (1988) Myrrh
The Wind and the Wheat (1987) Maranatha!
Ambient acoustic/electric instrumental.
Town To Town(1981)/Ph'lip Side(80)/Play Thru Me(82) Myrrh reissue
This 1991 double CD/cassette reissue lost "Send Out Your Light" and
gained "In Your Keep". A net improvement, IMHO.
Master and the Musician (1978) Myrrh reissue
Electric/acoustic instrumental, with an extra 8:56 track on the 1989
reissue. This might be to compensate for losing the story in the LP.
How the West was One (1977) Sparrow reissue
Live with Second Chapter of Acts. This 1991 twin CD/cassette re-release
doesn't have any words, but does have a few photos.
What A Day (73)/Love Broke Thru(76) Myrrh reissue (CD)
Not sure if this 1990 re-issue made it out on cassette.

o Track times for Private Collection tapes are correct to within 5 seconds
or so - I hand timed them while updating the list.
o Track types are A for (mainly) acoustic, E for (mainly) electric, and

Ok. Thanks for all the responses. Based on some of the things that
were in them, I'm thinking of a new structure for the Phile, namely:
PART I
I. Credits (first things first...)
II. Albums in print
III. Club address and details
IV. Fragmentary biography
V. Concert experiences
This new section V would be for people's recollections of, for instance,
the Glass Harp concert mentioned in the 15th Sept. edition.
PART II
VI. Short discography
This would be like the start of the long discograpy, but include
the guest appearance albums, labels, and and appropriate indications
of who did what.
VII. Solo albums (long discography)
Crimson And Blue through to What A Day, including Private Collection.
VIII. Band albums (long discography)
Glass Harp, New Hudson Exit, Paul Clark and Friends, etc.
IX. Session albums (long discography)
Roar of Love, etc.
X. Cameo appearances.
The difference between section 8 and 9 albums is rather fuzzy; I'm also
not totally sure where to put How the West was One.
Anyone have any better ideas?
