Just thinking about what the truck driver is going through right now...a
jeep flips in front of him, and he quickly reacts as he's trained to do.
Except...he runs over a guy. Not to be graphic, but did they lock eyes
before the crash? Will the drivers life ever be the same again? Is he
(the truck driver) a Christian? Has his daughter sung "Awesome God" in
youth service...just questions.

None of us think it's the truck driver's fault, and we'll all miss Rich
(he's been to my church twice). We shouldn't lessen our sadness (or
happiness) for Rich, but let's all pray for the truck driver too.

My good friend killed someone in a way similar to this--11 years ago.
She still thinks about it every day...

I'm going to quote this in its entirety, because it needs to be repeated.

Thank you for looking beyond the hero-worship to see the others who
are suffering because of this accident. I'm impressed by your
insight. It's the best "witness" I've seen in quite some time.

my father is a truck driver, and an incredible man...but, he had a very
similiar thing happen, in which a drunk driver drove into the side of his
truck and was killed instantly...it was graphic and tradgic, and my dad
has never been the same...

i'm inclined to agree [all of jason's probing questions/callous trolling
aside], and i think it's an appropriate viewpoint to laud. granted, the
author of the above [who i don't know, and i'm sorry for not calling
him/her by name...i think, as an aside, it's cool we've gotten all the
newbies aboard, albeit under tragic circumstances, and i hope some of 'em
will stick around] was influenced in her thoughts by people in her life
who have gone though similar things, but at the same time we need to be
reminded that other people are really going through it. rich's family,
for example. he didn't leave a wife and kid behind like others who have
departed early have done, but i believe his mom is still alive...and there
is also the circle of artists/musicians that he worked closely with who
are also going through grief and who need our prayers...

however [and i know i've taken forever to get to my point...forgive me,
i'm being long-winded again] i don't think it's totally fair to rip on
people for feeling loss here. i don't think this is hero-worship at
all...most of the posts that have been made here have recognized, to
varying extents, that rich is one of us and there will be one day in the
future when whatever gaps that there are between us that have been created
by fame or talent or whatever won't exist anymore.

the fact is [and i frankly don't know anyone at all who disputes this,
which is amazing] that rich mullins was a dang good songwriter. at the
very worst, he updated american evangelical hymnody in a relevant and, for
the most part, a biblically orthodox way. the more gracious among us will
admit that rich mullins absolutely cut our hearts to the quick with some
of the words he wrote. on more than one occasion.

and the fact that this talented person isn't on earth anymore is something
that is worth taking a day or two to grieve. imho.

But on the other hand, even if it is careless (and in some states,
illegal) to ride with no seat belt, it's more than a bit of a stretch
to attribute blame to a person for traumatizing a trucker BECAUSE
he neglected to put on his seat belt, got into a wreck, and got flung
in front of an oncoming vehicle, as you seemed to do in another
post.

It's one thing to think about the other folks involved in this
incident besides Rich Mullins. That's great, and necessary, and
very thoughtful. Your post recognizing that fact was fine by me.
But your opportunistic attempts to use this situation to your
rhetorical advantage are a bit on the tacky side, to say the least.

Since this is an unmoderated group I would suggest that you

1) stop telling people to do anything in this group, ever

2) get a life

if you continue to pass yourself off as a "co-moderator" of this group, I
will be forced to contact your isp and have you banned.

If you didn't pick this thread to post to like this, I would have ignored
you, but you're a freaking freak.

What is this??? I do not care what Jason has said in the past. We should
absolutely give his sincerity the benefit of the doubt. The unfortunate
truck driver is being thought of throughout the web and has been mentioned
in this newsgroup previously. Gabe, do you see Jesus responding to Jason's
post in this way? What are you thinking?

I thought the statement was in quite good form, actually.

Sorry Walter, your post is incorrect. Check Deja News from either the
end of August or the begining of Sept for the thread "Who is the
moderator of this group?" After much discussion it was declared that
Gabe and two others (was it Dallas and Chuck?) would be our official
R.M.C. co-moderators.

It really isn't playing nice to threaten the co-moderator. Gabe has been
trying very nicely to fulfill the job that was thurst upon him (or did
he volunteer -- not that it matters)

Please be Christian and loving in your further posts Walter. Thank you

look, everybody here ought to extend everybody else some grace.

somebody's died. people act really screwy after somebody dies, and take
offense to things they might not ordinarily take offense to, and just
generally fly off the handle. i don't think it's worth calling people on
the carpet for these things because, quite often, they just lead to
escalation of tensions, and that's what we DON'T need.

just let things go for a week or so, and let the public grief run its
course. then we can try to get past our humanity again.

walter, relax, bro. i'm a co-moderator as well. 8-)

the moderator gag has been running since mid-august. gabe passed himself
off as moderator in jest a couple of times, and in totally unrelated
developments somebody [maybe me? i don't remember] proposed a moderator-
in-name-only to take all the "where's the moderator of this group, and why
isn't he canceling all these cuss-word filled posts?" complaints without
any real power to do anything about it, and dallas and i volunteered for
the post and had a defend-mike-roe's-talents-after-_sticks_and_stones_
duel to determine which one of us was more worthy, meanwhile gabe
complained to both of us that he was doing the moderator-without-any-power
gag WAY before dallas and i had this loony idea, and since the debate
wasn't getting anywhere, dallas and gabe and i declared ourselves CO-
moderators-without-any-power, and there you are.

or something like that, anyway.

as somebody on another newsgroup was saying to me yesterday, "if only real
life was this much fun..." 8-)

While he's out getting that life, maybe he can pick up a sense of humor

There are consequences to our actions. That's all I'm going to

Tactlessness is a crime I can live with. I think there is a point
that needs to be made, and since I have nothing to lose, I'm the
best person to make it. But in that other thread, please.

Thanks for playing.

There is but One True Moderator.

His name is Chip Howard.

Gabe is not Chip.

Chuck is not Chip.

Chip is not in my freezer, though Vermont this time of year is headed in

By the way, we need to clarify:

1) Gabe is indeed a co-moderator, although he appointed himself
2) There are several co-moderators in addition to Gabe
3) If you don't all quit bickering, I'm firing every one of you.

Thanks,

I haven't been on RMC for a long time, but it seems to be the same as
when I left.

Out of curiousity, DOES EVERY THREAD EVER STARTED ON THIS NEWSGROUP
TURN INTO A FIGHT?!?!

No wonder the world mocks Christianity so much. I can't think of a
group of people who deserve the mockery more than us. The constant
bickering is just embarrassing.

look, like i've said many times, people get screwy when someone dies,
whether they're believers or not. and anybody who uses this as an excuse

Cool. You just reminded me of a song Code of Ethics did back when they

Norman tribute album...

Because fighting is an enjoyable deversion for some of us. Don't take it
so seriously. I don't. If I really offended Jason with my comments (which
I doubt), then I'm sorry. But I'm really not as mean as I sound some
times. I just get carried away.

agreed! i enjoy talking about music, etc. here on "r.m.c." but i too am
often sucked into these petty arguments. i will be making a conscious
effort to not get involved in these from now on...and it is my hope that
more posters here will refrain from prolonging and provoking the few
immature "know-it-all" trouble makers who get these things going and stir
them up (you know who you are).

regarding the truck driver...how sad about this whole accident and
accidents like this one...often the trauma of the survivors of fatality
accidents, even just wittnessess is overlooked...
