Hello, I'm looking for the names of any Christian musicians
that have a jazz style. Something like Kenny G, Dave Koz, or
Al Jarrau (sp?) If you can help, thanks!

Paul Contos is a great Sax player who used to be Santa Cruz, CA based
but has since moved to NY (I think). He did at least two projects
(on blue note jazz I think) in the 80s while living in Santa Cruz
but his style is less melodic (more heady) than Kenny G, etc.

Koinonia - good stuff. Mehler & Nash's album is very cool.

If you want "pop" jazz ala Kenny G, try Marquis.

Oooh! For blues, it's the Darryl Mansfield and _________ (special guest)
series. I have Mansfield with Glenn Kaiser ("Trimmed and Burning") and it
is ALRIGHT!

Sheree,

Check out the Brentwood Jazz Music Label. They have several excellent
jazz artists: Sam Levine: "Something to Believe in" and Jack Jezzero:
"One Way" are two excellent CD's. Also John Mehler/Kenneth Nash: "Double
Disc Jazz Praise" is also great and has over 70 minutes of music on it.

If you like Blues, check out Larry Howard: "Bright Side of the Blues" on

the Forefront label. He also as a new CD out, but I don't have it yet.
If it's half as good as "BSB" it'll be great.

Look forward to hearing how you like them. :)

In His Service,
Jack C

In response to your posting requesting info on christian jazz musicians,
look out for Carl Allen's next Cd which will be released this spring. The
name will be Testimonials" He is performing old gospel standards as well
as original material with spiritual themes. I am trying to book a tour
for him to promote the album in non traditional sources. I thought jazz
clubs might not be appripriate for this album. If you know any churches
that might be interested in having his quintet, please e-mail me. thank
you.
