A lyrical preview of the new songs you'll hear this summer as well as a
taste of Amy's next album project...
TIME
by Kirkpatrick & Grant
Chorus:
It takes a little time sometimes
To get your feet back on the ground
It takes a little time sometimes
To get the Titanic turned back around
It takes a little time sometimes
But Baby you're not going down
It takes more than you've got right now
Give it time
Vs.1
What's this walking through my door
I know I've seen the look before
Sometimes on faces in the street
Sometimes in the mirror looking back at me
You can't fix this pain with money
You can't rush a weary soul
You can't sweep it under the rug now, Honey
But it don't take a lot to know...
Chorus
Vs. 2
Well it may not be over by morning
But Rome wasn't built in a day
You can name this thing a thousand times
But it won't make it go away
Let me put my arms around you
And hold you while you weep
We've been talking and talking, I'm sick of this talk
And it's nothing that won't keep
Chorus

LIFE IS A CURIOUS THING
by Kirkpatrick & Grant
There was this guy, he was down on his luck
He was truly poverty's child
Well he had no home and he had no car
And he wore a weary smile
Moved out to LA.., knocked around for a while
But he was getting nowhere
Then he did this movie and it did really well
Now he's a millionaire
Life is a curious thing
Life, ooh life is a curious thing
I know a man who could paint the town red
Had a college degree in fun
'Till the doorbell rang and a long lost flame said,
"This little boy is your son."
She have him a suitcase and a bear
And left 'em in a cloud of dust
Now he's checking out schools and driving carpools
And learning to adjust
He says, "Life is a curious thing."
Life, ooh life is a curious thing
I know that it can be demanding
I know that it can be unkind
I don't really understand it
But Lord sure knows I try
'Cause life is a curious thing
Life, ooh life is a curious thing
Let me tell you 'bout a kid I knew
A pudgy girl back in school
She had greasy hair and geeky glasses
Object of ridicule
The other day in the check-out line
They were ringing up my rice and beans
And there she was, a pretty little face
On the cover of a magazine - and I said,
"Life is a curious thing."
Life, ooh life is a curious thing
I know that it can be demanding
I know that it can be unkind
I don't really understand it
But Lord sure knows I try
Just goes to show that you never know just
What tomorrow may bring
But I can tell you one thing - That what it is
Is seldom what it seems
'Cause life is a curious thing
Life, ooh life is a curious thing

THE SPRING TOUR WAS TRULY SOMETHING, BUT THIS SUMMER'S TOUR
IS SOMETHING ELSE
THE BAND:
Full name: Obed Wayne Kirkpatrick, Jr.
On Tour: Musical Director, keyboard, vocals and guitar
Birthdate: August 31, 1961
Family: Wife, Fran and two girls: Kourtney (6) and Shelby (4)
Hobbies: oil painting, collecting historical artifacts and building a
dollhouse
for his girls.
Fave old hymn: "It Is Well With My Soul"
Fave city on this tour: Paris, France
Most embarrassing moment of performance:
"Singing an original song in a high school talent show along with a
friend. I
forgot to turn my mike on, so all everyone heard was my friend singing the
harmony parts." And the moral of this story is: always check the "on"
switch
before you open your mouth.
Full name: Rick Jude Palombi
On Tour: keyboard and vocals
Birthdate: February 27, (not telling!)
Family: Single
Hobbies: water skiing, reading, art appreciation and hiking
Fave old hymn: "By The Waters of Babylon"
Fave city on this tour: San Francisco, New York, Stockholm, Paris and
Singapore
Most embarrassing moment of performance:
"My senior piano recital in college. I had walked off the stage planning
to return
to do an encore. My mother thought the program was over and stood up to
announce that she had baked cookies and made coffee. Everyone was getting
up to walk out and I peaked from behind the curtain to say, 'Mom, I've
still got
three more Motzart pieces to play!'" And the moral of this story is:
always give
your mom a set list.
Full name: William Reese Owsley III
On Tour: guitar, vocals and keyboard
Birthdate: March 6, 1966
Family: Single, youngest of three siblings
Hobbies: music, music, music (When I'm not writing it or performing it,
I'm out
scrounging up vintage gear to play it on.)
Fave old hymn: "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross"
Fave city on this tour: Kalamazoo, MI (the crowd rushed the stage)
Most embarrassing moment of performance:
"In 9th Grade, my friends and I formed a "rock 'n roll" band. We were
going to
do a show in the high school gym. We thought it would be cool if we waked
around back and entered from "back stage" instead of coming in the door
and
walking through the crowd to get to the stage. It had rained, so we
walked
through wet grass to get to the back door. We kicked into "Born To Be
Wild". I
was singing and playing guitar and very soon I realized that I was being
electrocuted as I did so. Nothing serious - I could just feel it starting
in my
fingers then moving through the rest of me. I finished the song then
jumped up
on the drum riser to get a towel as by that time, the rest of the band
knew what
was happening. The show must go on!" And the moral of this story is:
where
there is water - go acoustic.
Full Name: Christopher Michael McHugh
On Tour: drums
Birthdate: May 6, 1964
Family: Wife, Heather and two sons Jackson (3) and Aedan (20 months)
Hobbies: golfing, golfing and art museums
Fave old hymn: "Power In The Blood"
Fave city this tour: Paris, France
Most embarrassing moment of performance:
"During Amy's show... normally before we do "Too Late", Amy talks for
three or
four minutes. One night, I thought it would be fun to get up and walk
around.
So I got up and went over to talk to Rick. That was the night she only
talked for
60 seconds. I heard the cue line coming out of her mouth and I'm
frantically
scrambling to get back to count off the song. There was only a delay of a
few
seconds, but I never got up again!" And the moral of this story is: when
you
have a place provided to sit down in front of thousands of people - it is
there for
a reason.
Full Name: Tabitha Gail Fair
On Tour: vocals
Birthdate: March 15, 1965
Family: Husband, Michael (a trumpet and flugel horn player). Oldest of 3
siblings.
Hobbies: shopping, dancing, camping, fishing, water skiing and reading
Fave old hymn: "Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
Fave city this tour: "The Big Apple" New York
Most embarrassing moment of performance:
"That would be a show I did that had a fast costume change and I forgot to
put
my bloomers on. I was on stage doing high kicks and cart wheels before I
realized it." And the moral of this story is: always check your fly -
whether you
have one or not.
Full Name: Jerome Aby McPherson (Jerry)
On Tour: guitar
Birthdate: May 16, 1957
Family: Wife, Evie and son Miles ( 13 ) daughter Miro` ( 2 )
Hobbies: going "on line", radio scanning, looking for old guitars and
amps.
Fave old hymn: "I Will Sing The Wondrous Story"
Fave city this tour: Paris, France
Most embarrassing moment of performance: Jerry said this story is still
the best
one. You may recognize it as it first appeared in FOA Newsletter #8,
August
1989: I was playing at a college assembly with a band and at the end of a
song,
I totally blew a very prominent lick - a complete train wreck! The entire
auditorium sat silent for a few seconds and then erupted in laughter and
applause. I raised my fists in the air and jumped up and down like Rocky
("Feelin' strong now...") And the moral of this story is: there is no
foul-up so
great that a scene from a popular movie can't recover.
Full Name: Kimberly Lee Keyes
On Tour: vocals
Birthdate: May, 9, 1966
Family: Single, one older brother
Hobbies: right now, working on my house - updating the kitchen and
tearing
down wall paper in every room. Water skiing, tennis - anything outdoors.
Fave old hymn: "Amazing Grace"
Fave city this tour: Paris, France
Most embarrassing moment of performance: Many years ago when I was on
tour with Russ Taff, I had very long permed hair. At one point all the
stage lights
went out. Somehow, my hair got tangled in the tuning keys of Jackie
Street's
bass, so when the lights came up, there I was all bent over and unable to
free
myself. They had to bring people out on stage to get us untangled. Hence
- my
current short hair! And the moral of this story is: if you have long
hair - don't
stand too close to bass players in the dark.
Full Name: Avery Millard Powers III
On Tour: bass, vocals, guitar
Birthdate: December 24, 1965
Family: Single, mom and dad in Greensboro, NC and one younger brother who
works as a civil engineer in Washington DC.
Hobbies: other than music, running and biking
Fave old hymn: "Father's Eyes" (Just kidding!) "Sweet Hour of Prayer"
Fave city this tour: Paris, France
Most embarrassing moment of performance: I was performing original
material
in a club with a band. I was playing guitar then and had just gotten a
brand new
rig. I had it all stacked up on one side of the stage and looking so
pretty. During
one song, I rushed forward for a solo part. I underestimated the size of
the
stage in relation to the length of my guitar cord and looked around just
in time to
see my amplifier rocking before it all crashed forward producing the most
horrible racket. And the moral of this story is: go wireless.
{PIX: Amy and band boarding a Leer Jet, panoramic center-fold shot of
entire
band taking final bow on stage.}
