I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of the band called The Hooters.
I know of three albums they have produced. They have had the hit songs
Day By Day, And We Danced, Johnny B., Where Do The Children Go?

On each of their three albums there is a song that is strongly flavored
with Christianity. I was just wondering if anyone knew if they were of
some Christian background.

The band originates out of Philadelphia and named themselves after an
instrument they created, the hooter.

The name of the songs are All You Zombies, Satellite, and Heaven Laughs.

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom-

Back up a few days & read my post under Joan Osborne - Again, Re:
I wrote a few Hooters facts there pertaining to this newsgroup. :)
they are Jewish.

Latest album Out of Body (93) has song "Shadow of Jesus" :)

The instrument "hooter" is officially called a Hohner melodica.

Well, now that you mention it, I've been hearing a lot more of Cyndi
lately, from her cameos on "Mad About You" to the promotions of her "Seven
Deadly Cyns" album. I always liked her. Why, oh why couldn't she have been
the one to survive the 80s instead of Madonna?

okay, bad example. for what it's worth, i agree about the cyndi lauper/
madonna bit.

you get my point, though. the kids have grown up on tlc and pearl jam and
smashing pumpkins and that like. good pop like mr. mister and the hooters and
cyndi lauper is lost on the young whippersnappers, i'm afraid.

Well, you have picked one of my favorite bands, but they are not a
Christian band, I am sorry to say. (But a GREAT band.)

They were THE band to have at your prom when I was in high school.
Their self-recorded album was much better than any of the albums they
recorded for a major label. (Big College Joke: What do Jessica Hahn
and Capitol Records have in common? They both overproduced the
Hooters.) They also were heavily involved in the production of some of
Cyndi Lauper's stuff.

Cornerstone did an interview with these guys several years back --
likeable, open, but not particularly Christian. The same word from an
ex-girlfriend's sister who worked for their management firm. But, hey,
keep praying.

I remember many years ago watching Amy Grant's prime-time debut (I
believe) on a Patti Labelle Christmas special. She was so nervous, she
was absolutely horrible. (This is not picking on Amy. Since then I have
seen her do amazingly great stuff both live and on television.)

However, there was one of those few defining moments of performance
greatness also on that show --
Cyndi Lauper and Patti Labelle did a duet version of "Time After Time".
Wow! Amazing! Incredible! Encore! Encore! Encore!

The Hooters was (and may still be) a band somewhat popular in the '80s. If I
recall, their sound was mostly acoustic, with some Mandolin stuff, etc. Had a
few radio/top 40 hits.

Bazilian wrote Time After Time for Cyndi Lauper, and One of Us

of his own band, which still makes records, i believe. they just
don't get the distribution they did during the Hooters "Live-Aid"
heyday...
