Not bloody likely, for any number of reasons. It's not likely that Schlitt
would leave Petra at this point, for one. Additionally, it would seem that
Perry's recent break with the reunited Journey would indicate that he's
just not into the "band thing" anymore. If he wasn't happy with a band
as successful as Journey, I certainly couldn't see him being happy that's
as obscure (relatively) as Petra.
Still, I guess it'd be pretty cool if it were true. :-)

Add to that, since Bob Hartman left, Petra is really Schlitt's band...with
Schlitt and Louie Weaver being the only members who have been there more
thatn two albums.
As HM pointed out in an interview with Schlitt, Petra bears no resemblance
to the band they used to be...and frankly, if "God Fixation" is as good as
the "new" Petra gets, then maybe it's time they left.
Although I saw what basically comprises the new Petra lineup in concert
following the release of Petra Praise 2, and was surprised at how well they
handled classic material...including an interesting version of "Judas Kiss".

It was my understanding that Hartman has not totally left the Petra
Corporation. He is still very much involved but behind the scenes... He's also
still doing some songwriting.
Actually, there's a new guy out there named Lincoln Brewster who has a new CD
out on Integrity's "Vertical Music" label. He played on Perry's last solo
release. If anyone could know of Perry's alledged intentions of Petra-fying
himself, I would venture a guess that Lincoln may have a clue.

I could think of few things that would be more awful......an almost legendary
singer like Perry joining Petra? ouch......
Although, while we're on the topic, it was kinda nice to hear Lou Gramm do
something with them. then again, the only interesting thing about that entire
CD was the fact that Lou Gramm was on it. Hmmm......

Definitely not true.. This rumor was floating around a few months ago, when
progrock.org published it on their news page. But Bob Hartman and others
have said it's totally, completely untrue.

The album was disappointing, but the tour that followed it was totally
awesome. Their live shows really were more energetic than I've ever seen
them before, and the music was unbelievable.

And they've grown together and improved a LOT since then.

True...Bob is still handling the bulk of Petra's songwriting. But he's not
touring with them, and with a few exceptions (guest shots), isn't playing on
their albums.

Actually, I've often heard that at one time, Greg Volz was considered
as the lead singer of REO Speedwagon. Maybe Petra was ahead of their
time?

Foreigner did an album without Lou Gramm? When was this?
As for Van Halen, I assume you're referring to Gary Cherone, the singer
from VH3. That album sucked, true, worse even than the stuff they did
with Sammy Hagar (Diamond Dave is the One True Van Halen Singer), but
Gary Cherone himself is a great singer and a great performer-I _love_
his work with Extreme.

You're correct about Volz. He rejected the REO offer *before* joining
Petra IIRC.

Oh yes, they got a guy who (I think) sang for King Kobra, and did an
album called "Unusual Heat," which made the "Van Halen 3" album look
like a blockbuster. You could probably still find copies of "Unusual
Heat" in your local record store, in that $1.44 cut-out bin up front.
It single-handedly torpedoed Foreigner's career.
It may be a great undiscovered gem, but as I was never a big Foreigner
fan in the first place, I never checked it out.
It just warms my heart when I hear people say that... Although, I do like
a lot of Sammy Hagar solo, pre and post VH.
>Gary Cherone himself is a great singer and a great performer-I _love_

Yeah, I really expected that millions and millions of VH fans were suddenly
going to "discover" him. I guess the painfulness of VH3 was the biggest
problem, but I think that expecting a band to re-invent itself twice in a
career was a pretty big obstacle, too...especially when the new singer,
even with his obvious talents, doesn't have the kind of personality that
jumps out at you like Diamond Dave (or even, to a smaller extent, Sammy
Hagar). I used to argue with friends who said it was Eddie's guitar
playing that made VH big. Of course, he revolutionized guitar and all
that, but it was mostly musicians who cared about that. I always saw DLR's
outrageousness and personality as a heavy contributor to their early
popularity.

I know this is OT, but when I was working at Wal-Mart, I saw a commercial on
the instore TV network for Sammy's new album. In it, they had Sammy in
complete Wal-Mart gear, the blue vest, the name badge, even a Telxon scanner
I think. Kinda strange seeing Sammy dressed as a WalMart associate, but very
interesting.

I've seen him as a guest on Emeril Live on the food network.
I guess he's hurting for a gig.

Well, isn't it self-evident? :-)
Foreigner did an album in 1991 called
"Unusual Heat" with a singer from right
here in Louisville KY, Johnny Edwards.
Had a song on the radio that, for the life
of me, I can't remember the name of.
Oh well....
At that time, Lou Gramm was busy with
a new band he'd started called "Shadow
King". Both bands were signed to
Atlantic, and if you look in your local
.99-cent tape bin, you'll find copies of
both albums.

In 1991, called UNUSUAL HEAT. Since disowned by Mick Jones and everybody
connected with Foreigner. The other singer was named Johnny (can't remember the
last name, he was that bad).

Especially Seven Sundays and the Truth trilogy on 3STES.

No, but I do know that CCM artist Tim Miner contributed some
songs/instrumentation/arrangements to SP's 1994 solo effort FOR THE LOVE OF
STRANGE MEDICINE.
