I've got a ticket to Rich Mullins' farewell concert tour here in Wheaton,
IL. It says that Avenue G and Jeff Sack, along with Jimmy A, will be
opening for him. I've never heard of the first two. Who are they?

I just saw that concert here in L.A. with the same people opening for him.
I don't know exactly who Avenue G is, but they were OK, but Jeff Sack had
a really good voice, and played keyboards. Jeff is from Rich's home church
in Kansas.
The cool thing about the concert was even though the opening acts opened
for him, they continued to play throughout the concert, with Jeff singing backup and Avenue G playing random instruments. Also at least here in L.A. he was with Jimmy A who played guitar and even did a few songs of his own.
all in all, great concert. Too bad it is his last

Avenue G and Jeff Sack are both part of Rich's backup band (I just
saw the concert in Newburg, OR a couple of days ago). I'd give
both and "OK", but nothing really new or special, but the sound was
really lousy (small, unsophisticated PA in a big, echoey room -
anything detailed turned into instant mud).

The concert overall was great (if you ignored the sound quality -
i used to run sound quite a bit, so if it's off, it bothers me -
probably shouldn't, but it does.). I'm a big Jimmy A fan (i was the
only one who clapped when Rich announced him as a founding member
of Vector), but his stuff didn't come off well at all without a
regular band (Rich & Beaker backed him up, and they clearly weren't
comfortable playing his style of music) and decent sound - it was
way too complex for the situation.

Rich was great - i'd never seen him live before. He's completely
unpretentious - the exact opposite of a lot of the current big
set, big lights, bit costume tours. He came out in a faded t-shirt
and ugly, baggy shorts that kept slipping down - no shoes, socks.
He was great both singing and talking - he was really open and
honest, which made him easy to like.
