Here is another article I took the time to reprint from a paper called
Christian Music Today. This paper comes to me free and if anyone wants the
address, it follows at the end of the article.
Wayne Watson talks about his songs from the album "Home Free"
WHEN GOD'S PEOPLE PRAY -
"This song resulted from circumstances surrounding Sandra Kirkham's illness
and death. The song was written during a time when we though Sandra was
getting better. The song illustrates one of the conclusions I've come to in
my life--that prayer doesn't change anything. The hearer of our prayers
changes things. I think sometimes we believe that our words manipulate God
into action. They don't. They can enlist the help of the Lord, and they do.
But, God does what He will do. He chooses to act or not to act and that is
His business. We get so manipulative and play God like a puppet. He's the
one who does the changing.
After I wrote "When God's People Pray", Sandra got worse. But, I decided
not to change the song because God was answering prayer, but just not like we
had prayed. I wanted to sing a song that says when you pray, things will
happen because God will chooose to make them happen. I want the song to
remind people that God is the changer."
HOME FREE -
"This project is dedicated to Sandra Kirkham, her husband Wes and their
children, who stay behind here on earth to remind everyone of the God Sandra
loved and lived for until her last day. Much of 1989 was an emotional
coaster-ride of hope and disappointment...for the Kirkhams and for us who love
them. WE prayed for Sandra and enlisted the prayers of those who never had
the please of knowing her. We believed Sanda would walk away from the
hospital bed...believed and prayed for it. We knew one day she'd be home.
God answered our prayer, just not like we'd hoped, but still, He answered.
The best thing we learned from losing our friend was to let God be God!"

I would suggest wait until next year to see him on tour, when he works
most of those songs out of his program. But you might get luck and he could
sing a lot of his older stuff, which is much better.

I must disagree with you. "Home Free" ranks as one of my favorite
albums of all time, second only to Petra's Beyond Belief. But then, I guess
everyone has their own tastes. ;-)

Better get yer flame-suit on. Yer gonna need it ;-)
Funny. Some of these songs have been on the top of the CCM charts. I find this
album on my deck more often than his earlier "The Fine Line", or "Cindy Cruse"
(you just gave that one a 2-thistle).
I found "Home Free" to be a better-than-average offering. The title cut is
IM(ns)HO a fairly fresh treatment of a hard truth.
Saw Wayne two months ago in concert. One of the best sets of the evening. Of
course, doing "Another Time, Another Place" with Sandi didn't hurt ;-)

Along with several others who responded, I disagree with this review.
I thought the first four songs on the album were excellent (Freedom,
Almighty, When God's People Pray, Home Free). Unfortunately, I also
thought that side 2 of the album was mediocre (I would agree to giving
a rating of -3 to side 2). The lack of consistency is disappointing,
but still I'm glad I bought the album (2 and one-half on scale 1-4).

I could agree with that. I tend to quit listening on the back side of the
album. Though I like "Teenager in the House" as a novelty song. I'm gonna
have three in high school all at the same time |-]
