A friend and I were sitting in a local diner last nite discussing a
variety of topics, and after an hour of non-stop Beasties, the thought
occurred to me that there are no Christian Artists that I can think of
which have that all-encompassing funk/rap/etc. sound. At least, none
that I can think of. Can anyone recommend a band (indie or otherwise)
that has a similar sound?

PeAcE!

I recommend Stephen Wiley, most definately...His "Bible Break" reminds me
of "Brass Monkey" and who can't miss the similarities between "Rappin'
for Jesus" and "Alli Baba and the 40 Theives"??? It's like they were
seperated at birth.

I suggest you just buy the Beastie Boys.

You could try Situation Taboo, an independent funk/rap/industrial
band from somewhere in TX (San Antonio, I think). I can't remember
their web address but you can reach it through Carson's Christian
industrial page at www3.ns.sympatico.ca/carsta.

Yea, verily, joan nieng <ni...@students.uiuc.edu> did say:

I'm not sure I'd say that SitTab is all that close to the BBoys, but it
might be the closest you could get. Any other comparisons I could think
of would be EDL (EveryDay Life, which sound like Rage Against the Machine),
Native Son and the Foundation (Mark Soloman from the Crucified, which is
more of an older-school funk with rap overlays), XL & DBD (which is actually
more along the lines of rap over thrash music)...

I'm not coming up with any good comparisons, actually. SitTab was from
San Antonio, were sorta (I guess) in New Braunfels for a while, and are
now I guess in Selma (or was that Shertz?) which is San Antonio...again.
Basically from the San Antonio general area. The last stuff I heard
from them was sorta funk-infested dance/industrial music.

Actually there is a relatively new group out of Seattle named Fireball
Brady. They are exactly what you are describing. For more info, you can
email them at Fir...@aol.com.

I've thought the same thing, and I think of the older TobyMac stuff as well as DC Talk (band before TobyMac).
