Does anyone here know of the validity to the rumor that Steve Perry has become
a born again Christian and is performing in different churches? I read
somewhere that he was born again at a San Diego church called the Lighthouse,
and that the name of that church has changed to West Coast Christian Center.
I also read Tim Miner, who helped write and produced two songs from Steve's
last solo album, is a music director for this church.

If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gin

This is interesting. I've heard similar rumors and being that Journey is my
favorite band, Christian or secular, this would about make my day.

It's interesting that you bring up Tim Miner. Yes, he did help write and
produce two songs from Steve's ' 95 album, "For the Love of Strange
Medicine." But, I think that Tim did a lot more than that.
I think Tim did a lot of ministering to Steve and very likely, could have
been one of the forces that led to Journey's '97 reunion album, "Trial by
Fire," which has some very spiritual lyrics (not that that means anything).

One of the songs from Steve's solo album that Tim helped with, "Anyway," is
a very powerful song about forgiveness. Steve said that it was basically a
song of appology to the other members of Journey. Steve didn't even want to
do the song but said that Tim convinced him that it would be good for him to
do.

I have a couple of sources that I can check into and get back with you.

Mike,
Please let me know as well....
My wife is a big fan of Steve Perry...
She would be happy to know if he is saved!

Thanks & God Bless,
Eddie.

Many of us have heard similar rumors but I haven't heard about him touring
any churches. I think he's probably a Christian. He is currently in the
studio recording a solo album, no one seems to know for sure if he is in
Journey now or not. News is hard to come by even on the Journey e-mail list.

We always thought that Petra sounded a lot like Journey. Would that
satisfy her?

I dunno, I guess they're roughly in the same stylistic region, but
speaking as a big fan of Journey and Petra's older music, I can't
see Petra working as a substitute for Journey.

We really have only listened to Petra since John Schlit joined. Thier
old music hardly sounds like the same band! We saw them in Atlanta over
the summer.

I would appreciate also knowing if Steve Perry is a Christian. I understand all of the posts are from 1997, but I've been listening since the late 70's and love his voice.
