Famous folk singer busted for fatal attack on live-in girlfriend
A well-known singer has been arrested for fatally assaulting his
live-in girlfriend at their Tokyo apartment Thursday night, police
said Sunday.
Junji Shirota, 54, is accused of inflicting bodily injuries on Yasue
Tanaka, 41, resulting in her death. He has admitted to the
allegations, investigators said.
"I got infuriated and hit her. I'm sorry about what I did," Shirota
was quoted as telling investigators during questioning.
Shirota and Tanaka got into a violent quarrel at their apartment in
the Kamata district of Setagaya-ku Thursday night after she urged him
to divorce his wife living in the United States, police said.
Shirota got infuriated and hit Tanaka in the face several times before
going to bed. Shirota found Tanaka was not breathing Friday morning
and called an ambulance. Paramedics rushed to their home and
pronounced her dead.
Investigators took Shirota into custody after concluding that the
woman died of a brain hemorrhage she suffered as a result of being hit
by him. Tanaka and Shirota had been living together over about four
years, according to investigators.
Shirota is well known as a singer and banjo player. He was a member of
a band, Natarsher Seven, which he founded with folk singer Tomoya
Takaishi. Tanaka became an aide to Shirota after working as a TV and
radio personality and an actress. (Mainichi and wire reports, Japan,

She must have moved his guitar.

I heard the news from a very goo d friend of mine, who was also a very
close friend of the victim, Ms Yasue Tanaka. She managed a few artists and
worked in US as well. Last winter she was in New York, and then spent a
few days in New Hampshire. She was at a concert and I got to meet her as
well. Very charming, friendly lady. We chatted quite a bit, and we found
that we grew up in Japan within five miles of each other. Some of her
friends went to a private high school where my father was teaching. A
small world, and needless to say we are all saddened by the premature
departure of this wonderful person.
To respect the deceased, her family and her friends, I humbly request that
no jokes be made on this matter.
Thanks
Chief
Was this really neccessary? When presented like this in a forum for
ITM it's nothing more than repugnant gossip. I sincerely hope this
thread doesn't go any further than this.

This isn't neccessary, please quit posting this on discussion group
message boards. Please don't respond to this thread... it's nothing
more than repugnant gossip. This is a tragic event and it doesn't
need to be aired like dirty laundry. Please have respect for the
families.

As you've probably read by now, these folks were known by some of the
people who participate in this group. I doubt the American media will
carry the story, so this is a legit forum to mention it IMHO. We do talk
about other things besides guitars on this group.
