South Wind of the gentle rain, you banish winter weather,
Bring salmon to the pool again, the bees among the heather.
If northwards now you mean to blow as you rustle soft above me,
Godspeed be with you as you go, with a kiss for those that love
me.
From the south I come with gentle breeze; my work all nature
blesses.
I melt the snows and strew the lees with flowers and soft
caresses.
I'll help you to dispel your woe; with joy I'll take your
greeting
And bear it to your loved Mayo upon my wings so fleeting.
My Connacht, famed for wine and play, so leal, so gay, so
loving,
Here's a fond kiss I send to you today, borne on the wind in
its roving.
These Munster folk are good and kind, right royally they treat
me,
But this place I'd gladly leave behind with my Connacht pipes
to greet me.
Lorraine states in her intro that she learned this as an
instrumental, then found that it had English words by Donal
O'Sullivan, which Archie Fisher sang on his album, The Man With
A Rhyme. Her book is the Magic Dulcimer, by Yellow Moon Press,
1983
Hope this helps!

That record ("The Man With A Rhyme") changed my life! You should get it
if you can. If you can't, or if you don't find the lyrics elsewhere,
email me your address and I will xerox them for you.
I recall Archie Fischer recorded it on Folk Legacy but I don't have
access. Can someone help? Hopefully this might be the basis for capture
this most beautiful of airs for the net to share.
Thanks in Advance, KC
You might try calling the nice folks at Folk Legacy in
Sharon, CT. FL usually includes lyric sheets with their
recordings.
Greenfields of America also recorded a vocal rendition
of the tune on one of their live albums.
