After 18 months I took up cudgels and I think I got somewhere.

With capo at 3 and DADGAD tuning I worked out the song went something
like:

Intro

Bb C Bb Am
Bb Am Gm C

F Gm Am Bb Am Gm C
F Gm Am Bb Am Gm F
Bb C Bb Am Bb Am Gm C
F Gm Am Bb Am Gm F

I struggled to work out the actual chord shapes so only have a guess.
The GAD are mainly open I think and most of the time the bass is
played on the bottom string, so this sounds near to me:

DADGAD

000000 F
220000 Gm
440000 Am
550400 Bb
770600 C

but they are not quite right. Anyone know the right chords?

Hi Ian,

I don't know the tune, but I know DADGAD quite well.

One option without the capo (the chord symbols ignore all those implicit
notes like 7 9 11...)

Bb x13030
C x32030
Am x02030
Am x07507
Gm 550300
F 3xx233

Capo 3rd fret (sounds nicer, IMHO):

Bb 550400
C 770600 (same as Bb, just shifted 2 frets -> soundhole)
Am 440200
Gm 224000 (e and a string barred with index finger, d string little
finger)
F 004200

Sure, there loads of variations to this. An easy way to find them is to
remember that low e, D and high E are just octaves of each other. The
same is true for A and B strings. Thus:

Bb 550400 could also be played as
Bb 500455 or just
Bb xx5455 and so on...

After all it's down to your own taste.
Happy experimenting!

Hope this helps,

Joergen
