Johnny Connolly (majority of recordings)
Paul Brock (some)
William Sullivan
John Kimmel
Oscar Wood
Katie Howson
Does anyone know of other artists who play the single row melodeon
exclusively ( or majority)
and availability of recordings? The genres can be English, Irish,
Qeubecois, NewFoundland, etc. I'm not interested in Cajun artists.
I would also pay a good price for recordings of
the following:
John Kimmel
William Sullivan
Alfred Montmarquette(Qeubecois)

How about Scottish? Topic have a CD called "Melodeon Greats" which feature
some of the Scottish single-row and two-row melodeon players from the
first thirty years of this century. The Wyper Brothers, who first started
recording in about 1903, are featured alongside Pamby Dick, James Brown,
William Hannah, Peter Leatham, etc. I don't have the catalogue number, but
perhaps a websearch will help.

Most of the players on "Melodeon Greats" use 2-row boxes, some even more
rows - the Wyper brothers, Peter and Daniel, use 19-key C/C# boxes.
So that album's not too relevant for what Don wants.
A few names that he might want to add to his list would be Bobby Gardiner
(at least on his latest album, "The Clare Shout") and Brendan Begley, who
has been using the melodeon a lot lately (check out "We Won't Go Home 'Til
Morning", on the Kells label).
He may also want to keep an eye out for Tom Doherty's only album, "Take The
Bull By The Horns", which features very powerful old-style Irish melodeon.
Should be available from Green Linnet.

That's perhaps true, but I'm sure there are some one-row players on that
LP. I may be wrong. The front sleeve features two one-rows by the look of
them, although I can't see any reference to the photograph.
John Kirkpatrick, current God of the English Melodeon.
In fact, Kirkpatrick advocates playing rasty-sounding pokerwork Hohner
boxes instead of the fancier italian ones. He says the sound is closer
to what the Dead Old Guys played.
