bonny lad leave me be-hind, And will ye...

(And _YES_ it _IS_ a seven-bar phrase!)
(Substitute 'laddie' for 'lassie', 'lad' for 'lass', 'he' for 'she'
as required...)
(I omit the penultimate verse - it's hackneyed, and makes the song
unnecessarily long...)

Em G D
As I cam' in by yon rushy wood,
A D A
What spied I at my true love's door?
D G Em
Me heart stood still, me eyes grew blind
D Em G A
For to see me bonny lad leave me behind,

Chorus:

And will ye gang love and leave me now?
Will ye gang love and leave me now?
Will ye forsake your aen love true,
And gang wi' a lass that ye never knew?

As I cam' in by yon lenten wend
I spied another my love attend.
I bowed my head, I cried "Achon,
The best of my good days are gone!"

Chorus

And I will tell you the reason why:
Because she's got more gold than I,
And I will tell you the reason true:
The sweeter taste of a love that's new,

Chorus

I leaned my back against an Oak
Thinking it was a trusty tree,
But first it bent and then it broke,
And so has my love unto me,

Chorus

And if you love me we'll never part,
And instead of gold you can have my heart,
And you can have my heart with a right good will:
You're a bonny laddie, I love you still,

Chorus.

Thanks for the arrangement, I had been meaning to figure it out myself and
now don't need to. However I have a question that has been bothering me
ever since I first heard this song, what the heck is the meaning of
"gang" in this song?

"gang" has several meanings, as I understand (I'm of Scots descent, but
several generations Kiwi :-)
It can mean "go" (leave, depart), as in this case,
or "get about", as in 'Sally Wheatley' "she gangs wi' Mr. Black"
There are most likely others I can't recall immediately, but doubtless other
net-scholars will...
