There are now interactive, beginning level, Gaelic language lessons on
the web. These lessons have accompanying audio files and web form based
exercises. They are designed to teach conversational Gaelic to people
with little or no previous exposure to the language. The content
is based on the Speaking Our Language series which is the
major vehicle for Gaelic language instruction in Scotland.
If you have an interest in Gaelic, take a look at:
http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/gaidhlig/ionnsachadh/bac/
If you are browsing from withing North America, try the lessons
from the official Sabhal Mor Ostaig North American Web Site:
The first four lessons which are presently available
will soon be followed by at least two
other lessons as part of general research being conducted at Sabhal Mor
Ostaig
and Canan in the areas of information technology and technology transfer in
conjunction with Gaelic language and culture.
By participating in these lessons, you can help to
establish the demand for these lessons on the web. If you would like to
know more about Sabhal Mor Ostaig, Canan or Gaelic, look at
For information on additional learning materials for Gaelic and
the Speaking Our Language series, look at
