Does anybody here remember the Irish Rovers? They came out before my
time, during the Beatles era I think, and have about 5 albums. I heard their
live recordings, and they had great fun. I'd love to have seen them live, but
I'm sure they've fallen by the wayside. Anyone know their history and what
happened to them?

The Rovers were my first exposure to Irish music when I was a wee tad.
Aside from their freak hit with Shel Silverstein's "The Unicorn," their
greatest contribution to American culture was their role as the Rocker Arm
Assembly in a Chevron gasoline commercial, singing the immortal lyrics...

"We're the rocker arm assem-ba-lee, assem-ba-lee, assem-ba-lee
We're the rocker arm assem-ba-lee and WE DON'T LIKE DIRT!

(Bridge:)

A detergent gas-o-leeen
Can keep your engine
running smooth and clean!

We're the rocker arm assembalee and we don't like dirt!"

After their brief stateside vogue they were very popular in Canada, and
appeared on the CBC many times. Others will probably give you more
specific information.

The Irish Rovers (aka: The Rovers) have still been performing, at least
until quite recently, but not touring too heavily. Will Miller has just
produced an instrumental CD called "The Lark In The Clear Air". Will is
living in British Columbia, but I'm not sure about the rest of the guys.

-- Will Millar of the aforementioned group recently released an album of
children's songs here in Canada -- not sure about the US. Also, one of
those guys runs an Irish pub in Vancouver called "The Unicorn" (go figure).

Hi there,
Is there anyone out there that knows anything about gigs or Irish sessions in Paris. I know there are numerous Irish pubs in Paris but I would love to know where to go to hear some trad music.
Thanks,
Kevin

There used to be a pub in Montparnasse called Ti Jos. It's actually a
Breton resteraunt with a pub downstairs. Also, check with the local Aer
Lingus folks.

Hi Chris - Have a look at their website www.theirishroversmusic.com - they're beginning their 50th year of touring and are going great guns. Released over 40 albums just in North America, more internationally. you can get them on iTune or their website. Also produced two television specials in the last three years.
Cheers, and have fun getting reconnected!
