I heard this morning that Ronnie Drew passed away a few weeks ago. Can
anyone furnish details or cite a link to an obituary?

Nothing on the internet about it, even his wikipedia entry which is usually
on top of such things. So, perhaps this speculation is just a wee bit
premature, or hopefully more than a wee bit.

I hope so, too. Actually, our "Irish Padre" mentioned it to me this
morning as we were leaving Mass. He grew up in the Beaumont section of
Dublin when the Dubliners were in their day. When I asked him about his
recollections of Ronnie Drew, he volunteered that he had passed in
recent weeks. On reflection, he might have been thinking of Tommy
Makem, God rest his soul.

Possibly, probably. As I indicated below, the "report" I received was
during a brief encounter on the way out of church. This isn't the type
of situation with which I feel comfortable: Speculating about the
demise of our famous bard, who might be chuckling to himself, reading
the message traffic, that "he hadn't gotten the memo." Nevertheless,
I've enjoyed his work through recordings and wish him the best, whatever
is his temporal/eternal state.
