Was there an actual siege of Ennis?
Guessing during Cromwell but can't find any references.

There was a siege of Enniskillen in 1594, of which you can see a nice picture here

But I don't see how that could have become Ennis.

There was siege of a castle very near Ennis called Ballyalla 1642. The castle no longer
exists.
