I am interested in getting my hands on the lyrics to a 1930's tune
entitled "My Sweetheart's a Mule" Thank you for any response.

Well blow me down but it didn't jump out of Digital Tradition.

As I recall, it went like this:

My sweetheart's a mule in the mines
I drive her without any lines
On the bumper I sit
While tobacco I spit
All over my sweetheart's behind

I always thought of this (as well as the "Turds Song" )as the ultimate
prepubescent potty humor song. Some phase you just never get out of!

Regards, KC

My father was a coal mine electrical engineer in West Virginia from the 1930s througn the 1960s and used to sing "my sweetheat's a mule in the mine." The lyrics were the same as above. It was a miner's song - nothing juvenile about it - those guys lived with the threat of death every day - rock falls, explosions. My dad saw another man's head crushed between two mine cars - an enduring trauma.

This song was one of several mildly bawdy songs he sang with friends after a few drinks - very pleasant memories of a wonderful man.

God bless you, my grandfather too was a coal miner, but in Pa. He taught all his children and grandchildren that very song. I sang it to my children and now teaching my grandchildren. Thanks Pops, may you and all coal miners Rest In Peace, and I hope all your songs and traditions continue to be passed along.
