Welcome to you! Many of us here in the U.S. go to desperate extremes
trying to find good, especially live, Brazilian music. The fortunate
among us live in urban centers which attract Brazilian talent. Others
live in "the sticks" and find access to live Brazilian music growing but
still scarce.
We have you settled?
Mateus de Madison WI
I do hope you can make it here too.
We have a growing community of interest in Brazilian and
Latin music here, fostered in part by Jazz-FM's Amanda Martinez's
radio program on Saturday afternoon 4-6 PM. You can access via the Web.
All the best,

Martin,
It encourages me to see how many people DO enjoy Brazilian music.
I know it's still restricted but that doesn't matter. I will look up
Aramanda Martinez..thanks for the suggestion. If you want to hear
some of my work tune in the life webcast..http://www.KZUM.org
on Wednesdays 1-3pm CST..The host Randy Morse who has been
extremely helpful, is going to feature my CD on APRIL 12th.
Hope you can listen and give e feedback.
Thanks again and um GRANDE ABRACO...

Welcome Sergio, we can always use more enthusiasts here. I wish you
luck in Denver and with your recordings. Americans love Bossa Nova,
that's for sure, and I have found that almost any kind of quality
Brazilian music attracts their attention and enthusiasm. Choro for
many years has been growing in popularity here, as it has in Brazil,
and Americans, in part due to evangelists like the people in this
newsgroup, are finding more older MPB artists that they enjoy.
I myself have worked diligently among friends and acquaintances to
promote the names of Edu Lobo, Dori Caymmi and Francis Hime among
others, just because they are some of my very favorites. And in the
time it has taken me to type this, there have probably been three
people who have fallen in love with the music of Jobim, an artist whose
influence will have no end.
I've been slowly and steadily pursuing Brazilian music for 30 years, as
both a musician and a listener. Having gone through periods with many
Brazilian musics, (samba, bossa, choro and mpb), I find myself really
attracted to samba-canção. Do you have any recommendations for this
kind of music, artists that you have appreciated, or periods that
you've been interested in?

What a day this has been, what a rare mood I'm in.

Of course I know here compositions, but what do you mean by the word
"fossa"? Is that positive or negative?

This was early in her career when she was in a trio?

To clarify, both these two are old school samba cancao?

> And You gave me a great idea..put "what a day this has been, what a

Funny you should mention that: I've ALWAYS done Almost Like Being in
Love with a Bossa feel.

> what do you mean by the word "fossa"? Is that positive or negative?
In Latin, fossa is a ditch. In anatomy, it's a shallow depression or
hollow. Translate that into a mood, and you'll get the idea. Definitely
not positive.
Sergio said:

And Gerry asked:
> This was early in her career when she was in a trio?
Exactly. Trio de Ouro, which Herivelto founded. Dalva and Herivelto
were a couple from 1937 until 1950. From that union came not only "Ave
Maria do Morro" but Pery Ribeiro.

Que prazer ter você aqui neste grupo! As it's been said by others
here, outside of Brazil, Bossa Nova is still highly regarded. When
people here have a chance to listen to your album, they'll testify what
a great singer and songwriter you are. Without spoiling my upcoming
review of your album, let me just say that your swing in "Balansamba"
and vocal phrasing is a joy to hear. Also, your own compositions are a
breath of fresh air. I especially like "Língua do Pê" and its word
play. Congratulations!
Um abraço (do Texas)

She had an album in 2001 titled "Yvette."
She also does a song on 1992's "Grandes Cantoras Populares."
