"Useless Landscape" is the literal translation of the original tune, "Inútil
Paisagem." Here are the Portuguese lyrics.

Inútil paisagem
Antonio Carlos Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira

Mas pra que
Pra que tanto céu
Pra que tanto mar,
Pra que
De que serve esta onda que quebra
E o vento da tarde
De que serve a tarde
Inútil paisagem
Pode ser
Que não venhas mais
Que não venhas nunca mais
De que servem as flores que nascem
Pelo caminho
Se o meu caminho
Sozinho é nada
É nada
É nada

There's also an english language version entitled "If You Never Come To Me".

Regarding another Jobim song: "Só tinha de ser com você" does anyone know a
source for the English lyrics for this song which is titled: "This Love that
I've Found"? I've only heard part of them at the very end of the film "Bossa
Nova." The Jobim webiste http://www.jobim.com.br/e.index.html
indicates that there are English lyrics but for some strange reason doesn't
print them.

Slightly off-topic but to confuse matters even more: So Tinha De Ser Com Voce
was originally written as an instrumental with the title Sambinha Bossa Nova,
recorded on Sergio Mendes' Swinger From Rio recording with Jobim playing
guitar.

Chovendo Na Rosiera was orginally written as an instrumental with the title
Children's Games. And Retrato Em Preto E Branco was (you guessed it)
originally an instrumental called Zingaro.

Confused yet?

I've gotten these hopelessly confused now. I thought Children's Games
was also known as Two Kites. I feel quite certain it is known as the
"Theme from the Adventurers" as well.

Two Kites is another tune.

You're probably right. It was featured throughout the film. Incidentally, the
film must be the worst movie ever made. I watched it once just to hear the
music. I think it clocked in at 2&1/2 hours. Make that 2&1/2 LONG hours.

a few of the songs from jobím’s albums "tide" and "stone flower" are
rearranged (and in some cases, renamed) tunes from the adventurers.

I stayed up till 2am to watch it in pre-video-tape days. Godamighty it
was ghastly. Inexcusably bad. Jobim lived in LA for awhile trying to
do this kind of thing for a living. Imagine if he had done a few
decent movies before leaving in disgust...

The only way I knew it was associated with the Adventurer's was that
it's footnoted in this way in the sheet music as published by TRO long
long ago.

Yeah, I have a book with all the tunes from Wave and Stone Flower and the songs
from the movie are credited that way. I would have thought they'd like to keep
it a secret.

Jobim look at this perfect site:

"Inutil Paisagem" is the original title in Portuguese.
"Useless Landscape" is the literal translation of it.
