Do you have experience w/ this site for downloading, i.e., is it a
safe enough site to download from?

You wouldn't be downloading from the Abracadabra blog but from
rapidshare.de, which is a German site tused by many music swappers. I
have never had a problem with it.

Nor have I. It's probably worth nothing that both of us use Mac's where
"safety" with downloads is vastly less problematic. Kenny uses a
Windows box. While I haven't heard much about viruses in music
downloads, I also don't keep in touch with Windows difficulties either.

"Kosher" would have to be explained outside a food-handling/processing
enterprise.
Above, I was talking about the potentiality of malicious code: viruses
and so forth. I've never experienced anything like that from
Rapidshare.de, but as I mention, I'm on a Mac where we don't have
viruses.
So, I'm not sure exactly what your question is. rapidshare.de has
whatever it has. Participants can upload whatever they like, others
can download whatever it has if given a link. It clearly has a lot of
recordings, it might have films, I don't know. These are clearly a
violation of copyright and distribution-rights law. One can download
from it for free, but one can also pay to have faster downloads,
multiple downloads,e tc. I'm not sure exactly what makes it a "pirate"
site. On my website I have a few tunes that are a violation of law.
But who knows or cares, there's only a few friends that access my site
anyway.
It is involved in illegal distributio of materials, but I'm not sure
where "kosher" and "pirate" begin and end. I'm also not sure any more
where ethics begin and end. Loronix's website links hundreds of albums
to storage at rapidshare.de, but predominantly these cd's/albums are no
longer available commercially. Thus, I'm not sure who is being hurt by
the enterprise. If enough interest were generated by an album being out
of print for 15 or 20 years, it might accrue a potential purchasing
audience of say 100. Which would generate a good $50 bucks or something
for that artist's heirs and twice that for the manufacturer. But here,
of course, nothing is being manufactured.
If you check out the materials available via loronix.blogspot.com,
you'll find that a boatload of this stuff couldn't generate a
purchasing audience of 20.
Just some thoughts.
