The New Real Book vol.1 has a chart for Triste by Antonio Carlos Jobim. It
includes english words, but only one stanza of words. Listening to the
version of this song included on The Verve Jazz Masters #13 ÒAntonio Carlos
JobimÓ CD, (sung by Elis Regina,) it was obvious that there are quite a few
more verses. I would love to get english words for the remaining verses,
anyone have them? Or know where I might find them?

The verse in the New Real Book goes like this:

Sad is to live in solitude,
Far from your tranquil altitude;
Sad is to know that no one ever can live on a dream
that never can be, will never be,
Dreamer awake, wake up and see,

Your beauty is an aeroplane,
So high my heart canÕt bear the strain;
A heart that stops when you pass by,
only to cause me pain,
Sad is to live in solitude.

Thanks,

Rich:

In the sheet music from the album Wave, the lyrics are the same except
that there is an added verse in portuguese. I haven't dug through album
jackets (best candidate Terris Brasilis) but I can't seem to run them
down. I actually do this song, and I've always sort of treated it like a
jazz lyric. I do the first run all the way down, then I solo for awhile,
then I come back with the last iteration of the A section.

Your lucky to live in Corvalis, say I.
