I was in Brasil back in the mid nineties and there was a very popular
song with "barata" in it. I don't understand much portuguese and
can't remember any other words but I think it was a theme song for one
of the Rio carnival bands at the time. Very fast, happy, with a bit
of tricky hook to it. Anybody know the song I'm talking about?

It ought to be "A Barata" from Só Pra Contrariar. You can listen to it
on the last album of this list:

Be aware though that this sons sticks to your brain and can cause
severe damage to your synaptic connections ;)))

Thanks for the link. That's not the song I was talking about but
thanks for the pointer to that radio station. That's a keeper.

The song was playing in lots of clubs/bars when I was there in the mid
nineties and I might be able to recognize the title or the name of the
band, I have a vague memory that barata was in the title and I may
have written it down at the time and then lost it. So seeing a list
of hit songs in Brasil in the nineties might trigger my memory. Does
anybody know a list like that?

I clicked on the link you suggested and then clicked on A Barata and
thought I was listening to A Barata but I was actually listening to
the first song on the playlist. I keep listening because it was
pretty good stuffl. When the playlist progressed to A Barata I
realized that this is indeed the song that I was talking about. I'm
delighted to find it. Thank you very much.
